So I got the car running fairly well today. Went to go put it in drive and found out my shifter cable is shot. The shift lever is just "Free Wheeling" also I noticed my shifter doesn't seem to have any type of gates in it. I only have to hit the shift button to take it out of park after that I can slap it into any gear I want. I have been shifting it by grabbing the collar on the steering column and turning that. The car was originally an 86 Cutlass with a 307 and 200-r4, its now a 403 with turbo 350. The factory shifter only had P R N D 1 2 so I think someone changed the shift plate already to Turbo 350, I don't think the cable bracket and shift cable are right though. The bracket is rigged up with spacers and doesn't mount up to any of the trans pan bolt holes. Is there anywhere i could buy this stuff or does anyone have these? I'm having a real problem with cutting up my factory console to stick another shifter in it. It seems like there aren't many around and it would really suck to ruin the only one.

if you had a 4 speed shifter, I'd just swap you ... I have my original hooked up to my 200-4r -it kinda sorta works

So is there anywhere I can get the shifter parts?

short of Ebay/Craigslist or scouring aroudn the salvage yards .... I am not sure were one finds an OEM floor shifter ... Have you placed a "parts wanted" ad here or any other boards?

btw new shifter cables are availible from Advanced Auto ... it's were I bought mine. If yours looks like it's a jimmy-rigged in lemme know I can probably get you exploded views of the console/shifter assembly and the transmission linkage assemblies. I have a GM illustrated parts manual (both paper and CD-rom)

cable brackets I had some issue with .... I wound up making an aftermarket and my original th350 fit by cutting and welding. You can try Jeg's or Summit, but like I said I had a devil of a time .... if at all possible a run to a junkyard is probably best. As long as the car has a 200-4r the bracket should be the same.

wait I am assbackwards - you have a th350 .... you should be able to find those at most catalog stores, maybe even the MrG section of an Advanced Auto/Auto Zone.
