I had the privaledge of finding a great buy on a Black/Silver numbers matching 85 442. I have rust in some of the wrong places and the frame rails at the rear are bad enough to warrant seperating the body and frame to do this restoration correct. I look at it as this. Only 3000 442 made in 85, not many left. May as well take the time to honor a great car and put it back on the road and show it. We are the next generation of cars to bring to shows.

I will start posting from the day I picked it up, to the donor frame I am taking from another cutty, to body work, interior, and then final paint. I plan on a 1 year project.

Pics of the day I brought the 442 home

These are pics of "pinky the donor" (named by Brian Weaver from Gbodyparts.com) As seen a little rot on this frame as well near the rear end. I have more frame rails where this one is not so good, the rails are good. I hope to have the body off the frame this evening.

Mans buzy at it! My 87 442 was also a save but from a better starting point. Plans for a concurs type restoration or with hidden & in the spirit of Doc Watson's 442 upgrades? ie a well built 403 instead of a box stock vin9, or widened rear 442 rims with a better size white letter tire, or 2.5" instead of 2.25" exhaust, or an 87 120mph or aftermarket 140mph overlay etc. Inquiring minds want to know. :)

More pics from this evening stripping "pinky the donor" of its body. A little rough in places but in salvagable shape with some tlc with the plasma cutter and mig welder!!

I'd say this being the first time cutting up a car was both frustrating and fun at the same time. :p

This one gets to stay bone stock. I'd like to preserve the originality of it. I can play around and modify the 81 all I want. Not taking anything away from the 81, but I'd rather keep the 442 an original restoration for shows and such.
