OK IV READ THAT ALL OLDS HURST/442 CAME WITH THE 3.73 GEARING AND 8.5'' REAR END BUT NOT ALL HAD POSI. POSI WAS A OPTION TO BE ORDERED AS THE G80 OPTION, IS THIS CORRECT? IS THE G80 OPTION FULL POSI OR JUST LIMITED SLIP? I HAVE AN ORIGINAL BUILD SHEET FOR MY 1987 CUTLASS 442 AN IT SAYS G80 LIMITED SLIP. IM CONFUSED. ISNT IT SUPPOSE TO BE POSI?

it.s a 27 year old car so you don't know what has been changed. I would;t go by the build sheet, I'd be changing the rear end oil cuase no one ever does and see what's in there

X2... Limited Slip is GM's name for PosiTraction = same thing.... blame corporatized naming.

G80 is limited slip or like GM called it "posi". Pull the cover like Pontiacgp suggested and look to be sure. Might find something better or worse.

couple years ago, I snagged the rear out of a co-worker's H\O after he totalled it... 3.73 non limited slip, and was a 7.5" original axle...

only 84 H/O's had the 8.5''. 79 and 83 was the 7.5'' also 79 had 2.73 to 1 except the CA cars winch IIRC had an even higher ratio.
