Since the bolt pattern of the exhaust pattern is the same, big block Olds to small block Olds, is there any reason that I can't use say a W & Z manifolds on a small block? I know Thornton makes the dual manifolds for the 350, and they make copies of the W & Z Big block manifolds also.

a quick google search answers that question from a member on here in another forum..

thanks to joe_padavano for the answer below...

No, they don't, which is why the factory never offered them, even on the W-31. About once every couple of years someone who doesn't believe this spends a couple of weeks fighting with them, only to find that they hit the motor mounts, starter, oil filter adapter, etc.

Yes, they will bolt to the SBO heads. They will NOT clear in the chassis. Olds used the extra room due to the taller BBO deck height to form the individual runners on these manifolds. The SBO doesn't have this room.

Once again, if this worked, it would have been common knowledge 20 years ago.

They'll hit the oil filter adapter on the block due to the deck height differences.

I have a exhaust manifold set off a 1969 98 Olds 455, is a single exhaust set, passenger side is a T manifold, and it bolts right on and it's close to the filter adapter but does not hit the oil filter adapter. The drivers side doesn't work at all as the exhaust exits in the middle of the manifold, vs the back of the manifold. But to reply to the other replies, I should have searched to see if this had been asked before sorry, but I really never think to search for old posts, guess I should try that first next time.

Thanks

No worries - it's always an option to search but most guys here won't get their panties in a bunch if you post your question. Also, by positioning your question, conversation gets started and we all learn a thing or two.. By the way, as far as manifolds go; the Thorton manifolds are a good option. Good luck.
