Under the core support. What is the purpose of this? It looks to be pretty non aerodynamic. I'm thinking of removing it. I'm guessing it may be there to force air up to the radiator. Anybody know? Thanks.

You could take it off if you build a closed air box like the Monte SS's had.

Leave it on there. It's there for a purpose..and yes, it's meant to flow air to the radiator. Probably more effective when the car is moving and underway.

its called an air dam. At lower speeds it does nothing but at highway speeds the deflected wind can help cool the radiator surface by 10-15* degrees on some models so beware of travelling extended periods of time on the interstate on a larger gm car with no air dam... it could be a factor in some situations especially desert driving where every little bit helps.

I have never taken one off, but a few guys with montes I know removed them and had overheating problems. I hate the way it looks and they do make chrome or stainless ones or you could fabricate one...but I never wanted anything rigid there just in case parking or something I hit it, don't want to damage core support or radiator

I had made a stainless one for my 87 442 that I had years ago, looked really good, I bought another 87 442 last fall and am doing body work on now, I'll post a picture with the stainless air dam on it within a couple of weeks, should get to that point by then. Yes when I made the one back in the 90's I made 2 and have the other one in the attic of the garage, with the plastic still on it. You did have to be careful going into some parking lots with high entrances and curbs.

10-15 degrees different? Didn't know it was that important to cooling. I'm gonna leave it on, but I had to point out that she is the only car, and I've owned many, that sticks out like a sore thumb. Not sure if my other vehicles have them, but I know this one definitely does. :D
