Im looking at a set of rims for my 83 wagon with a 2" drop. The fronts are 17x7 with a 0 offset and 4" backspacing. The rears are 17x8, same offset and 4.5" backspacing. Do you folks think this combo will fit OK ? I want to go with a directional tire but Im not sure what would even fit. The cars got 6 and 7" rally wheels on it now with a set of Hoosiers on the back. Tired of the old drag car look.

On mine, 17x8 4.5b/s with a 245/45 was REAL close to the frame rails in the rear. Front was fine. It was pretty low for stock...I figure 26 yr old stock springs are probably pretty close to NEW 2" drop springs for ride height.

Surprise AZ.
I have 17 X 8 with 4.5 spacing on all four. With 235/50/17 Michelin tires on my El Camino, No rubbing or interference issues. Even with the air shocks empty.

It looks like your Camino is up a little higher than my wagon. The wheelwell openings are totally different aren't they ?

It really was a total package deal....pass side was almost touching, driver side was a little over 5/16 clearance. 4" Backspace would have been great, but very few "off the shelf" wheels are available with 4" in an 8" wheel.

A buddy ran 4" backspace on his camino with 255/50s on a set of TTII 17x8s. fit great inside and out.

What do you think about 7" wheels front and rear ? Would the 245/45s work well on a 7" instead of an 8" for the rear ? If they would work what would I need for the front ?

Look on the Lowering Springs thread, there's a pic of my wagon, with the boat. I run 275-40 rear and 235-45 front. No issues at all. I have air bags rear and QA-1 adjustable coil overs front. Big Block, it actually sits lower without the boat in tow, because with the boat, I add air to the rear and it cantilevers the front a little. I had the drag car look earlier, but broke a wheel and went to the 17's, it's taken a while, but now I like it a lot better.
