305. Lots even got the 267. The only g-body that came with a factory 350 was the '79 Hurst Olds.

What engines were available in the 78-83 Malibu?
Here is a list of engine codes listed for the 78-83 Malibu. I'm not totally sure that ALL were actually available each year, but they are listed as an option code for each year:

Year Model Available Engines
78 200 V6 (95 HP), 231 (3.8L) V6 (105 HP), 305 V8 (140 HP), 350 V8 (165 HP)
79 200 V6 (95 HP), 231 (3.8L) V6 (105 HP), 267 V8 (125 HP), 305 V8 (140 HP), 350 V8 (165 HP)
80 229 V6 (110 HP), 231 (3.8L) V6 (105 HP), 267 V8 (115 HP), 305 V8 (140 HP), 350 V8 (170 HP)
81 229 V6 (110 HP), 231 (3.8L) V6 (105 HP), 267 V8 (115 HP), 305 V8 (140 HP), 350 V8 (170 HP)

There actually were some 5.7 liter (350) engines available in some year Malibu's. However, they were mostly in Police and F.D. issued vehicles. Also, I think they were more readily available in El Camino's.

GM only put 350's in malibus that were special ordered for sale in high altitude areas, and for 9C1 codes. That said there was a Magazine article back in 78-79 that explained to the readers how to special order your new malibu with a 350 explained what codes to write your order form if you wanted the 350 in your new malibu. it may have been in motor trend, car & driver, or road and track.

Also note that the 78 -80 GMC Caballero had the 350 as an option and was standard in the Diabolo package making it GM's fastest production vehicle in 78 and 79

the Elcamino did not have the 350 on it's option list in those years, unless you knew the order codes

the olds cutlass got the olds 350 not the chevy 350

those of you in Colorado with a malibu, or bought a malibu from colorado that has a 350 under the hood may have a rare car.....

Yes an all original malibu is rare.

My 80 Landau sport coupe is rare in many ways, colour and options, and the fact that it has been a part of my life since september 1979, give me an idea for a new thread...
