So, I have had some people ask me why I never did a build thread on the 81' Safriwagon. Mainly because I am too lazy to post some pics. So we will see how this thread goes......

Here's some more before pics. A little rust on the driver's side lower quarter. This car has very little rust, especially for Minnesota. Floor boards are very clean.

Here are the pics of the quarter. Here is how the car currently looks. The blue tape was put on the wheels to protect the shinny surface of the rim. The body was not seperated from the frame. However the car was fairly clean underneath. It was painted with KB coating rust preventative paint. It was fairly easy to do since I have a lift in my garage. What is not covered here is the 4 wheel disk brakes and the lowering of the car. It is running 1" lowered A body rear coils and Bell tech 1" dropped front springs along with 2" lower S10 blazer spindles. I believe it lowered about 3" all the way around. 18" boss wheels 245 45 18 up front and 285 40 18 rear. There is a slight frame notch. Power is a basically stock 350 with vortec heads.

Where and how did you get a quarter for it?

Looks good but why not just do a patch panel?

Looks like you've made quite a bit of progress since I saw it last fall!
I've always loved the '78-'79 Montes and yours isn't making it any easier to fight off the urge to pick one up...
Can't wait to see how it turns out!

The quarter was an Ebay item. Won auction for $100. Can't hardly cob a patch panel for that. Besides quarter skins were $225 and I couldn't find just partial patch panels. There are a couple bends at the bottom of the quarter on the lower seam that would be difficult to duplicate as well. This is a very clean car. The girl who owned the car before me kept the receiver hitch wrapped in a towel by the trunk drop off next to the quarter. If it were not for that this car would be rust free. It was rust prooofed at one time. I guess technically the doors each had 1 small spot rusted from the outside in from the metal clips that hold the lower trim on. I already patched them and they are decent doors, but a relative of mine picked me up a pair of Rust free doors from Arizona and hauled them back as well. So once I put those on this car will have no patches. I like this car and the power windows, locks, seat and A/C might be a nice change of pace in the summer from the basically stripped wagon.
