87 regal with built 231 v6

Postby David Williamson on Mon Jul 16, 2012 3:06 am

I have a 1991 Honda accord ex and I am thinking of trading it.
This man came to me and wanted to trade.
He has a 87 regal with a built 231 v6 brand new.
It is in very decent shape, brand new paint, new front end and lots of new parts.
I was wondering if you all could just take a wild guess by looking, I know its hard.
But If you could possibly just take a shot and tell me what you all think, would you do the trade, would this be a good trade?

Here's my car

me and the man are going to meet later this week.
so I will take some better pictures and a video.

Looks nice from what I can tell. Hows the interior? Is the front end included?

yeah its on the car now, he put the pictures up before he put it on.
The interior I haven't seen he says its clean, bucket seats floor shift.
But that's why I need to see it in person and take my own pictures and put them on here for you all to see.
It does seem like a great looking car and form what hes saying is the engine is brand new rebuilt all chrome and gets up quick.
Also if anyone could possibly quote about how the mpg's on a built 231 v6 would be, would be greatly appreciated.

Mileage won't even be close to the Honda, but if it's what you want I guess thats one price to pay. Remember Dave, you will need to give this car some attention at some point, so make sure you have a budget to do that. Not bad if you do most yourself, but gets pretty pricey when you need to pay someone else to do it. Good luck with the buy, hope it's at least as good as he's saying it is 8)

Yeah I assumed a much, I am not really worried on gas prices.
I actually do finally have the budget to afford to fix problems (if they occur sooner that further) but hopefully it lasts for some time before anything goes wrong.
But I appreciate this I hope so too.

I will for sure evan, I was also wondering if your ever down here in Louisville, could you come and check it out with me to have an extra pair of eyes and someone a little more knowledgeable about cars.
That's what I was guessing, depending if I slam it all the time or take it easy and go speed limits and not so hard on it.

Going to see the car tomorrow, But he finally told me last night what the interior is, its black velvet crush.
Which made me feel real off on the whole car now, I am not a fan of that type of interior.
Now if I liked lowriding my car, I would but I just don't like the idea.
So what I will have to do is redo or replace the whole interior.

Don't worry until you actually see it, it might look fabulous, lol. Good luck! :D

That is true, and I don't think it'll be much to get some good interior from pull-a-part for cheap.
If its not likable.

Thanks.

Sorry David, nothing personal but I'm going to say due to your history of getting screwed over and making bad decisions, you're just heading for another crash. You have been given advice in the past not to buy some one elses 'modded' project due to you limited mechanical aptitude and you agreed. You have also been given the advice to buy a car that's already setup the way you want it and again you agreed. Now you want to go out and get rid of your ( presumably ) only decent reliable car and trade it for a modded up 'hot rod' V6? Seriously dude, WTF?

But hey, who knows, maybe everything will work out OK, but if I were a betting man I'd say you're setting yourself up for another disaster.
85 Olds 442

Botched Olds 350 build by the crooks at Rocket Racing. Lunati 207/213 Voodoo cam, 8.1:1 CR ( was supposed to be 8.8:1 ), Stock #7 heads ( were supposed to have a performance valve job and valves that actually sealed ), American Racing headers, Performer RPM intake, Qjet with 1/2" 4 hole spacer, 2.5" Pypes X-pipe system, cowl induction scoop.

Engine never ran the way it was supposed to from day one due to Rocket Racing's negligence.
