I was chatting with a old friend about a few engine builds that I have pending , I have a 400 block with two freeze plugs on
each side , stander bore . So I ask him what about putting a chevy 350 crankshaft in the 400 block we both were :?: :?:

I suspect you already know its all about application. 377 is generally better for a well geared light race car or a light drag car. For about everything else a 406 is better hands down. RPM = ruins peoples motors. Why spin the snot out of it if you can make the same HP and more torque down (more stroke) in a more useable rpm range and an rpm range that your engine can live a much longer life with. More cubes is more torque which is almost always a good thing. For a (relative) heavy street car the benefits are more and deeper than I want to list.

Thank's , I will start looking for a good 400 crankshaft, I have srp pistons 30 over with eagle H beans rods 5.7 just waiting for me to put a good crank on that block. I have a stock 400 crank but i seen people running those cranks and they break at the damper pin side .

Why? Why look for a good 30+ year old crank?

This is a brand new stock replacement crank with 400 2.65 mains for $169.95 + shipping. And this is better than any 400 GM crank you will find. Better materials.

And I agree, a good torquey 400 will be better than a 377 for most anything. Unless you're looking for an 8000 rpm strip motor that you plan on rebuilding every season ...

Wish I could find a good 400 block. I'd be building a 420 ... but, since you already have the pistons, I'll let ya slide ... LOL
