A/C vacuum ball

what is the purpose of this ball??? I have my A/C stuff connected to a vacuum port on the manifold. Do I need this ball??? Thanks!!!

my answer is yes...I took mine off originally. I had problems with a/c & heat operation. I re-installed the ball and all my problems went away.

It keeps a reserve of vacuum so your ac or defrost will work on acceleration. Without it your air flow will drop to the floor.
