Need a little help. I found a set of camel hump heads untouched bare cylinder heads casting #3927186 for $5
My question is are these a good set of heads to rebuild on a small budget?
And how well will these on work on a 406?

From what I have read the Camel Hump heads are one of the best set of heads that came from the factory besides the Vortecs obviously. Im not experienced with them so I cant tell you what can be done but if they are going on a 400 make sure to drill the steam holes. The 400s get a bad rep for overheating, Iv had one for a year and a half and iv never had problems but once you start tweaking them thats when the problem arises.

The camel hump heads, or fuelie heads are a definite improvement over stock heads. The one downside is that there's no tapped accessory holes.
From what I've read, the Vortecs actually flow better than those heads. But for the longest time, these were considered the best "stock" small block heads you can buy.
For $5.00, they were an excellent deal, no doubt.

96 to 99, trucks or cars. You might hear the 062 is better than the 906 but that's BS. I've read that now some say the 906 is better than the 062. Both heads flow the same...

Head # 3927186 (information is from the book Chevrolet by the Numbers), combustion chamber in CC is 63.305
2.02 applications used screw-in guide plates, 1.94 didn't.
Casting # 3947041 was possibly used interchangeably with this head through 1969 and 1970 production.
The 186 head is similar to #3917291. The 186 head is identical to # 3782461.
The 186 chamber was redesigned, a temperature sending unit boss was added, 3 accessory holes were added to each end of the head, and the external identification "humps" were smaller.
The 1970 360 horsepower Camaro, and the 370 horsepower Corvette came with 2.02 intakes.

FYI

Doug

I have a set of 1.94/186,s. My plans are to try to sell them to somebody doing a correct restoration engine. For a DD, I'd rather have the better quality/materials of the Vortec,s.

Those 193's arent vortecs. They are swirl port tbi heads. They are not any good for performance. Not in the same ball park as vortec.
