1985 olds cutlass olds 307 to bbc 454

Postby zach5187 on Tue Aug 04, 2009 10:24 pm

Well i sent my block off to the machine shop tonight :D Very Excited! I know it can be done but have a few questions. I know to use the full length hooker comp headers for g-body. Its still a little cloudy for me as far as what to do for motor mounts.....? I use the stock mounts that are one the crossmember.? But i use bbc mounts on the engine side?? correct me if im mistaking....? Am i missing anything? I am strictly looking for answers to physically get the motor in the chassis not I need a hell of a rear end or trans lol...jk but really though strictly motor related responses please. Thank you Zach

Use the stock mounts for any 267/305 Chevy powered G-body, for both the frame and the block.
Easy as pie.

I am putting the same power plant into my Regal. I was told by people who have done this swap that small block chevy mounts, similar to the Monte Carlo SS, will work just fine. Did you keep your airbox in tact? If so, watch the clearence with tall valve covers.

Good Luck!! Post Pics when it's in..

Energy Suspension

Go to your local autozone and buy the energy suspension performance motor mounts. Much better quality and design. You can order the kit from summit which includes the tranny mount as well for a bit cheaper.

Unless the stock bore has already been bored .030"-over you're not going to end up with a 468. Not trying to burst your bubble or anything just want you to be aware of that - if the 454 hasn't been bored .030" over already then you'll end up with ~461c.i.

Bore it .060 over and you'll have a 468.

I wouldnt normally do this as im a newbie to the site and all but since this is almost the exact question i was gonna ask i will go forth with it. Would the same logic with the motor mounts apply to a 79 olds cutlass supreme. its got a 350 olds in it right now. and my buddy wants me to put in the 454.

The Olds 350 is a great motor. Bore it .068 or .100 over with 400 chevy pistons and rods. You will have 380 cubic inches with small journals and offset grinding. A 455 Olds is also a fairly easy swap.
