What liberties do I have with the E-Rod engine?

Does the car need a chasis harness? The e-rod package comes with its own stand alone harness so no need to rewire the whole car if the cars chassis harness is in good shape.

I would suggest not modifying the erod, as it would render it illegal. Any cam change would require retuning the ecm which is considered tampering and illegal, they even test the ecm to see if it has ever been reflashed. You will probably be sent to a referee station where you must show all the paperwork from the erod to prove it is legal. You are guilty until you prove your own innocence with emissions in Ca.

I could not modify the e-rod even if it has a CARB EO number?

If I were to have a 2010 camaro ss and install the parts that have the EO's on them, would that be ok, would that also be ok for the e-rod or is it when I install the engine I agree not to touch it beyond that point of installation?

Anything with an EO is fine, before or after the motor is installed.

Beyond that things can get dicey, depending on how easy something is for whoever happens to be looking at it to see. No referee or smog tech is allowed to take anything apart.

The only thing you can't change at all is the ecm programing. You can change the trans computer programing as much as you want but not the engine computer. However, changes to engines often require retuning which you aren't allowed to do, so it is a sneaky back door way to help prevent you from altering much.

The 2010 Camaro and the erod are two different certified emission packages. The Camaro package is more complex and has more emission parts than the erod. The big difference is most modern cars use enhanced evap which can't be installed into older cars, the erod has a old fashion non enhanced evap system that can work in older cars. This is why every junkyard ls swap is illegal, they came from the factory with enhanced evap which legally can't be deleted while also being completely incompatible with old cars. That is why the erod is the only legal ls motor for old car swaps since it come from the factory without enhanced evap.

If you have the coin to drop on the E-Rod package, you might not need more. There is a stock LS3/T56 in my 2009 G8. My seat-of-the pants dyno does not disagree with the '430HP' trunk emblem. The car is more than exciting enough for me, without mods. Just sayin'.

The erod is supposed to be 430 hp while G bodies in good condition can only handle 350 to 400 hp before things start breaking apart. A crusty G body in need of rust repair can't handle nearly that much power. You can reinforce the frame and body to handle more power to a point but these cars were never designed for modern standards of high power, they weren't even designed for 80s standards of high power. It is why turbo Buicks can suffer stress cracks and broken control arm mounts from higher than stock power.

WOW! Clone TIE pilot you must be real fun at parties!'.... instead of trying to help fellow enthusiasts help build a build a badass ride you rain on their parade!! i know what we are doing are not up to your technical standards, BUT if the local government isn't nit picking like you then why worry?? There is bigger issues then joe blow AKA me or a fellow enthusiast build a crusty G body... the government isn't playing by the rules as well!... not trying to be rude but you seem to be by the rules.... me and you have had our differences in the past and while i agree with some of your logic if we stick with the old restraints our cars will never pass any standards! Welcome the Erod package and if we find a way to mod it and be legal then just make it work......

Hey, I finally understand what some of you we're telling me the whole time about modifying the erod. So... yea, I feel a little bummed about that. On the bright side, the end result should be better than what I have now, A 355 with advertised 375hp (dyno shows 426hp @5800rpm) with a th350 and 3.23 rear.

Thanks for the info and replies.
