Just started to notice lately there starting to be alot less interest in people owning or dealing with gbody stuff other than companies that make products for our cars. why do you think that is happening and what is your thoughts on it? also which gbodys have losted more than others?

I think its that good ones to start from are becoming more and more rare. They are all getting ate up by collectors, or getting chopped up by lowrider and racecar guys. I'd be willing to bet at least 50% or more of all the G bodies made from 78-88 are long gone.

I think it's kind of a mixed bag. Although there seems to be a declining interest in gbodys discussion, there are some things to consider. First of all consider the time of the year. A lot of toys have been put away (at least northern boys & girls) and forgotten. You also have to think about how much has been discussed here and already talked about. Some of us (llke me) are getting older and fading away - I'm hooked, it's my life, I'll be there till the end. The younger crowd has no interest in gbodys or in fact collector cars in general. Next show or cruise you go to take a look around and see what average age you come up with. If it isn't a gbody discussion members don't show much interest, I have tried starting a non gbody build tread for my dragster, and lately my Sonoma build but there was no real interest. I am a drag racer and our Racing, track, Heavy mod section is defiantly declined. If you are a racer I would hope you know about - Motor Mania TV - my family enjoys watching us race when we it these events. As far as gbodys loosing value I believe they have bottomed and will do nothing but increase in value. I also think the Grand Prix is a hard sell, at least mine was.

It's not just G bodys but cars in general. More people are interested in disel tucks and motorcycles anymore. That and fewer people with disposable income the day to day bills become a priority before toys.
As far as G bodys go I have been buying/selling cars and parts for over 15 years, I'm getting out of G bodys partially due to wanting to work on something else and the other part is due to people who want something for nothing. By that I mean many people see the big stores (summit and Jegs for example) than can offer low prices and free shipping something the hobbyists and smaller stores can't offer.
A third part from what I have seen is the late 70s and 80's cars are seen as just old cars with a few exceptions GNX Hurst Olds and to an extent Monte SS, that you can still go to the salvage yard or somebody's storage shed and get whatever you need. This is still true in some parts of the country but many areas these cars are gone.

I've noticed hagerty values and appraisals for our cars have dramatically increased over the past year. Mine (80 malibu) went from 8,000 to 10,000 (cdn including tax) in the pat year and my father inlaws 84 el camino was appraised for $15,400 5 years ago and was $19,800 this year.

I think this is funny. Discussion may be down here on the forum due to the holidays, the weather, ect... but g bodies are up and coming for sure. I have had mine 10 years, and back then, very few people messed with them. They have only been coming up since then as a collector/classic car. There is so much more available today than there was 10 years ago, so many more at local carshows, and many are owned by the younger crowd, those who either remember them as a kid, or those who could only afford an 80's car for a first car.

100% agree I've had my malibu for 4 years and was born in 87. I was specifically after a g body as it was nostalgic for me as my parents had a few of them growing up.

I think like all things, there's cycles, and growing up in the 80's, cars were a big part of it. My kids have no interest in them at all. I think any forums could post the same observation. I've got an 69 VW also, it's hard to believe that most people are like "what is that?" Went to a VW show a few years ago, was similar, mostly older crowd. Main reason I don't get fired up about car shows. I get more enjoyment from driving them.

Funny thread. I'm 33 and I bought a Grand Prix a few weeks ago. I've always wanted a G body but for one reason or another never could make it work. I remember the G bodies as a kid in the late 80's and 90's as being mod'd muscle cars, turned into low riders, chopped into circle track cars or just old people drivers. I specifically wanted the GP, thought it looked the best. My parents had an 86 or 87 GP, but it was not even close to being the packaged I like, but even as a kid I thought the GP and Old's versions looked the best out of the G bodies. Yes, I was hooked on cars at a VERY young age. A girl-friend of mine in high school had a G body SS Monte with the 5.0. My other friends had LT or LS1 F bodies. I had a L98 TPI Vette from the late 80's. We all lived and breathed cars. I don't see that kind of interest in cars from younger people. There is a big following of car enthusiasts, but the young kids today are not into them like I was for sure. I think it's due to multi reasons. 1- Cars have gotten more expensive. It's not reasonable to expect parents to put kids into 30+yr old cars. A 2010 or 2012 SS Camaro or GT mustang is not a cheap car even today. Working part time at MdD's as a kid is not going to come close to supporting a 2010 SS or GT. 2- younger kids are not as hands-on mechanical, they just want phones and gadgets and they're not going to fix these cars, dad is going to pay for the repairs and mods. 3- The economy since the 2006/2007 crash was brutal on a lot of families and people including myself who entered the work force in 2006, into the construction business of all fields. 4- The selection of cars today's kids parents could have bought 8-12yrs ago which the kids would be driving now are junk. The import Honda wave we saw circa 2000 came from a bunch of middle age people buying new import cars for their families in the late 80's and 90's. When those cars hit 10+yrs old, Jr got the hand me down car and put a fart can on it. I don't even see the import ricer cars around town like I did 10-15yrs ago.... that fad wore out. In 2006, 10yrs ago what were today's 16yr old kid's parents buying? On the brink of the worst economic crash in modern history. Camrys, Accords, crap cars. GM quit making the Camaro in 2002 and started back in what, 2010? Those 2010 Camaros still have payments on them and mom/dad are driving them for another few years in a lot of situations. Schools have gotten rid of any form of shop class and look down on anyone that is a skilled person with their hands. Not a good situation for car collectors. Plus someone mentioned motorcycles... again, those are cheap and easy to insure/store/maintain and they can still have a 2nd car for DD; like an Accord. And let's not forget the brainwashing these kids have received all the way through college. They think cash for clunkers was a great idea and a lot of these kids probably want to see our Muscle cars crushed and us driving a Prius. Makes you wonder if the people who have the time and means should help get involved in the community with young kids to do car shows or something.
