Money talks, if you show up with $2,000 cash in hand a (and another $3 or $400 in you pocket just in case) a few days before the end of the month he'll probably take it

$5000.00 is high but I hate to say it that car is worth a lot of money in parts. The 8.5 rear is worth $800 if it a posi w/ 38,000 mi's $1,000, the lighting rods will fetch $500 and just needs to be cleaned & lubed, I can keep going but long story short $2500-$3000 in parts easy. I'm questioning why the car appears to be gold and in 84 they were black and silver. Is it a true Hurst Olds?? If it is I would pay $3000.00 if not $2000.00 - and I'm cheap. Only 38,000 mi's - I have had two transmission leak like that from cars sitting (front seal) that was fine once it was driven - Great project, try to get it.

Unfortunately, as many others said, that car's value is in its parts, not as a car.

For $3500-4500 I regularly (every 4-6 months or so) see H/O's with driver condition paint, complete everything mechanically functional running/driving condition, no missing parts, and decent interiors that may be faded but free of rips tears or stains. Usually undocumented mileage, but 50k to 80k showing on the odometer.

That car is either 1) a great parts car if cheap enough (doesn't sound like it) 2) an intense labor of love for someone who wants the car and isn't concerned how upside down investment wise they end up at the end, or 3) a long term project for someone with a shop, their own equipment, and an ability to do good paint work on their own (or at least all prep and bodywork before the final spray) who uses their own free labor to bring it back.

If I were you I'd go 2200 possibly a couple hundred more if delivered to my garage. But that's all. You come out ahead time, money, and quality wise with a different car if it costs more than that.

The car looks too nice to part out.

every time i have talked with him about it he says he knows its worth more in parts and goes down a couple hundred. i got him down to 4400 so far. ck80 I have not seen a nice H/O with decent paint and running for under 7k lately. has anyone seen nos stripes sell lately. I cant imagine they are cheap. I was considering telling him to keep them and knock a some money off his price. The body work was done before he stopped working on it, it just needs to have the surface rust sanded off. My paint guy said he will do it all for $3500 and the only stuff disassembled is what is taken off so it can be painted. Lilbowtie the gold you are seeing is the metal starting to brown from the surface rust it is a real hurst olds

That car does not need the rust sanded off, it needs to be blasted by someone who knows what they are doing and IMMEDIATELY primed, preferably with an epoxy primer.. If it is only sanded, it WILL come back to kick you in the butt.

Stripe kit is iffy, the adhesive doesn't last forever...a lot would depend on production date on the decals.

I agree, too nice to part, but too expensive at the asking price to restore/refresh

One last bit of FWIW...about 14 years ago I bought a 12K mile 22 year old car. Needed all the rubber parts replaced from age and took forever to flush all the scale out of the block and radiator. Might as well have been 112K by the time it was all said done, labor/partswise.

With the crazy prices on parts even for base cutlasses I don't think its a bad price

That's interesting that you say that ribbedroof, every body guy I talked to so far has said the opposite and that you don't want to blast because it will warp the metal and that a good sanding job is better. Could you tell me why you think sanding will kick my in the butt later. I'm curious as to why this is since I have been told otherwise.

I agree sanding is fine but I'd strip of all the filler as it absorbs water
