My son and I have started to work on my old Malibu and turn it into a Nascar look alike from the late 70s. Besides the normal putting a cage in it does anyone know any good tips to really pull off the vintage nascar look? Also before anyone gets to hurt over the poor sought after 1978 Malibu getting cut up. It aint that great lol

lol I like the random patches of duct tape. The wide wheels can be solved pretty easy with some bassett D slot wheels. They seems to have a lot. Putting a radius on the wheel wells is going to take some effort

I don't think radius on the wheel wells will be that bad. Cutting wheel, and rent one of those tools that bolts on the hub and lets you roll the quarters. They had quite a bit of flare on the grand national series cars. Another thing I'd consider is tucking the bumpers, Dave Marcis and Earnhardts cars had the bumpers raised up and shoved back into the header panel. Here are two clips from Dave Marcis' win with a Malibu

The fenders on the nascars had no lip. They were just cut and the edge folded over and there was no wheel housing so if there was any impact n those areas the sheet metal was easy to pull away from the wheel. They use braces like this to keep the sheet metal in place...

Ill run a rear wheel housing of course, however like pontiacgp said ill leave it with no lip so it looks like they did back then. Man how the sport has changed just look at those videos compared to now. Wish it was still like that today just with todays safety. Those pit guys aren't wearing anything but a jumpsuit. Plan is to put a fuel cell in the trunk area and hang it down just a bit like they did. I think ill try and leave the fuel port behind the plate though. The cage shouldn't be a problem after I get this thing stripped down
