Hey guys, I have a 1988 Monte Carlo LS with a 305 and a 200-4r auto. It has the 7.5" open differential with 2.41 rear gears (I know, they're very very low). I was wondering what was the highest (numerically) ratio I could get with the carrier I have, and if you could attach a link to a set that would work, it would be much appreciated, Thanks!

Personally with that setup I'd go 3.42

I just wanted to know what I could run with the carrier it has, since I read somewhere I could only run up to 3.08 with that carrier (series 2)

You can get whatever gear you want with that carrier. Summit and jegs both have them available to fit series 2 carriers

They make aftermarket gear sets for all of the carriers. I have a set of 3.42's for my 2 series. You could buy a 4.56 set if you were so inclined.

I think you were correct in saying 3.08 is the lowest (highest numerical) gears you can run on that rear. Heres a set from Richmond, 7.5in, 10-bolt, and 2-series carrier.

They also make "thick gears" that can go numerically higher for the carrier you have.

3.08 is the numerically highest OEM set that will work in a 2 series carrier, but you can buy aftermarket gears for either 2 or 3 series carriers.

This is incorrect your gears are HIGH.

The LOWER (short) the number the higher the gear.

The HIGHER (tall) the number the lower the gear.

3.08 and down is a 2 series carrier.

3.23 and up is a 3 series
