Hey guys I have a simple question on the steering gear box on the Monte Carlo SS.
I hear that the 800 box came in a quick ratio 2.5 turn lock to lock. WhIle there is a non -F41 box standard.
I'm getting conflicting info. Some say all Monte SS cars came with the f-41 quick ratio box, others have said not the case and you have to check rpo codes to be sure.
Question who is right?

RockAuto comes through again. Not knowing your story, I selected a 1986 model year. Apparently you should look for Z65 on the RPO tag. Not sure if Monte SS package came exclusively with the performance steering gear. But you can upgrade by replacing it.

The thing is, I have a 79 Grand Prix with the 605 box and looking to upgrade along with a jeep or astron shaft. I have a few leads on Monte SS steering boxes from guys parting them out with the pitman arm for under 100 bucks. I would like to know what to look for.

Allstar reproduces the Pitman arm if you can't find one. When going to a 1981-up steering box, the pressure and return lines use an O-ring fitting instead of the flare. If you go with a 1981-up box, get the pressure hose and return line to match. Somewhere in my wagon thread is the Edelman part number of the short stub hardline for the return hose.

Do you have the allstar part#? I know the Jeep Cherokee steering boxes are available, I believe all I would need is the g-body pitman arm. But not sure what kind of lines that box would require

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/aaf-all56354 This might be what you're looking for. I would first try to confirm the length.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, all Monte SS' came with the F41 steering boxes...unless someone replaced it with a standard box.
