ive been working on the electrical situation in the car lately. i wired up the windows only to make a new plan to move the power window switches to the center console in order to keep the door panels simple. i got the tail lights and turn signals working but im going to start over on the tail lights and front bumper lights and make my own led lights so i need to get some breadboard or something with a tight grid of holes to build it on.
the speedometer has been the most annoying part so far. the lexus speed sensor for the speedo runs off of wheel speed not output shaft speed. with this being an 84 regal it didnt have wheel speed sensors. so i was like i will just run the wire to the output shaft speed sensor and it should work fine. well.... just driving around the building it said i was doing 70 so i feel that in not going to work. so my new plan is to do the s10 blazer front spindle conversion so i can get a hub bearing with a wheel speed sensor and hook my speedo into that.

to anyone wanting to do this swap its a challenge to say the least. in my opinion if you do it. try and find a turbo non vvti 2jz. and plan on getting a adapter for the transmission. you can get one to mate it to a th400 but i have asked people that know more about gm transmissions than i do and they say if the adapter will fit that then it will fit a 4l60. so thats an option too. having a custom 2 piece driveshaft kinda sucks because i had to mount a carrier bearing for that so i doubled my driveline angles that needed to be adjusted. i have read the transmission i have a650e is good for about 350hp but can be built to hold 500. seems kinda weak to me so if i destroy it then i will go back with something else. the a340e that came with the non vvti 2jz was a bit better from what i have researched. putting a 4l60 would require either a stand alone shift computer or a factory computer that is piggybacked onto the harness from the engine. its kinda weird but not really that complicated.

as far as the engine. use a rear sump 2jz oil pan. new they run about 700 dollars. so try and find one used or try and find a sc300 as a donar car. i saw one on craigslist the other day that ran and drove for 800 dollars. so thats always a good way to start out. turbo and non turbo 2jz's came with forged cranks and rods. so you can get pretty good power out of either. if you go turbo and you still have the stock hvac case its probably going to melt it. turbos get very hot and it will be mounted right next to that plastic case.

Almost a G for an oil pan?! That's ridiculous; they're not Ferrari parts. This swap makes less sense wben the details start coming out.
yea the price of the rear sump oil pan was a very bad victim of price inflation due to supply and demand when people started realizing they can dump cheap aristo 2jz's from japan into mk3 supras for really cheap by just changing the oil pan and buying 150 dollar engine mount adapters. the way they justify the price is its a 5 part set. upper pan, lower pan, oil baffle, dipstick tube, oil pickup. honestly its a lot like the supra car itself. the mk4 supra wasnt really big until the first fast and furious movie came out. then it was huge and the price of them started to go up a lot. then more people started realizing you can take that stock car and increase injector size and boost and get 700hp without doing anything to the engine at all. i would have guessed as people started doing the same thing with the LS engines the desire for supras would start to fade and the prices would come down. but i havent seen that yet. but yes i agree with you. doing a 2jz swap vs a LS swap isnt the best idea. its way harder but its different. lets say you go to a car show and you see 5 g bodys there and you pop the hood on them. more than likely they will all have a chevy 350 or a big block of some flavor. unless its a more recent build and it will have a truck 5.3 or 6.0. wich all of them a good platforms to build on but they will be just like the one next to it. the way i am going will be very different from the norm but still able to compete on the track and the street but at a higher cost. if it were budget limited or skill limited this would be one of the worst ideas for an engine swap. me personally i have learned a lot about fabrication, welding, pulse width modulated signals, wheel backspacing, just from doing this project. so even tho its going to the same place but taking the long way to get there, its worth it to me.

That's the most important thing. If it's worth it to you, then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

Respect for sticking to your guns and seeing it through. Guys like me who want to utilize the 2JZ platform in a g body will benefit greatly from your findings and posts, so thank you for sharing your work!
I had already planned on doing the 400 conversion kit, just to keep things simpler.
