at most of the GTA car shows I see an blue 1986 Cutlass Calais Wagon ( FWD ). It was the fwd platform that everyone despised and its absolutely showroom fresh.

We all drove those Colonnades back in high school an talked smack about how we were really wanting a pre-72 car. Truth was those cars were damn near indestructable, handled pretty well, all came with disc brakes and we wanted nothing to do with them.......until I discovered circle track racing a few years later and stacked those cars up like cord wood.

I've come to like the 73-77 GM cars. My dream build right now is actually a '73 Buick century, much like this one, with a 455/TH400 combo. But I wouldn't kick that pontiac out of the garage.
There was a 4 speed 73 GS in my neighborhood growing up. I also had a 73 Regal I bought to drive through the woods when I was 15. The car was rotted so bad stuff fell out of the trunk through the holes in the quarters, but it had possibly the strongest front impact bumper ever bolted to a car. By the way, I was 15 in 1985 so many of these cars didn't have a long shelf life in NY.

I follow Jeff Duhham on facebook and he did a live video of a MINT '76 Grand Le Mans Sport Coupe that he bought recently. It's one of those cars that you never really pay any mind to, but once you see one in just the right color or configuration, it makes you actually want one.

Plus that green paint is just amazingly bad.

So, have you guys ever seen/bought a kind of "out there" car just because it was super nice?

Yes, I know a pontiac le mans isn't super rare or quirky, but you hardly ever see them anymore.
That puke green was just a bad idea and the 70's was full of it. Nothing wrong with green, just not that shade. The Collenade bodies were good cars for their time.

Thanks for posting? That is a really neat car.

I use to enjoy going to the dealerships when you could see the rows and rows of cars and if they had that oddball color combo you use to be able to get a good deal if it sat on the lot for a long time. A guy I worked with always bought the ugliest looking cars because he got killer deals on them. One of them was this bright yellow car with a poop brown interior. It was hideous but like he said it was as good as anything else and he saved some money. It was probably a one of one and worth a ton of money if it was around today! lol

Wife's aunt did that a couple of years ago...bought an Escape that they couldn't move because no one liked the color...her husband refers to it as "puke yellow"

Nice LeMans, I like the later square light fronts. As for the green, only bell bottoms & disco screams the '70's more.

I like to see cars that you don't see often (a.k.a. 55-57 Chevy, Mustang, Camaro, Corvette, Chevelle, etc. That's why
I bought a 79 Century Turbo Coupe (from the original owner) ten years ago.

I got myself a1978 4 door century. Can't explain, but something about that style I like. Was also my first car that I got myself a loan on in 81.

Cool car. I think you mis-typed. The 55-57 chevy, mustang, camaro, chevelle, corvette are everywhere.
