After lucking out and finally finding a 1979 Monte Carlo that was in fairly good shape I decided it was time to start fixing it up since its been sitting in my garage for going on 3 years now. Originally bought the car running with a mild 350 in it, drove it around for a month or 2 until it ended up in the garage for tear down. Removed the engine/trans then pushed the car outside to pull the body off the frame. Currently have the frame completely stripped and prepping it for powder coating, the rear sections of the frame are almost completely rotten out so I bought new replacements from Conrad that I'll be mocking up this week to weld on. Boxed the "C" channel of the frame already and cut the front coil buckets to fit in airbags. Once all my suspension parts start showing up in the coming weeks I'll move the chassis back into the garage for final mock up with the air bags to measure so I can fabricate my rear trailing arms and setup driveline angles. Once the suspension is all build then everything will be going into the powder coating shop to get colored up and re assembled in the garage so I can move onto the body work. The plan is to run air bags, slam specialties RE-7s in the front and RE-8s in the rear, I'm planning for the suspension to have about 9 inches of total travel, wont be doing anything crazy with it like hopping just FBSS control, down to park/up to drive. Still deciding to go 383 or twin turbo 350, that will be a last minute call!! I'll update this post as I go on with the build, any tips would be greatly appreciated!!

You cheated, can't take the easy way out with a crane truck to lift the body. :p Wish I would have one handy to put the body back on.

Welcome! Nice to see another 3rd gen. Can't wait to see what you have planned. How sure are you that it is a 78? I ask because it has 79 tails and front corner lights.

Haha yah the perks of having buddy that runs a service truck with a crane. Only had to pay him with beer!!

Welcome...will be watching for updates! Where bouts in Alberta are you?

Been in Fort McMurray for 5 years now, came from lower mainland BC.

Last owner told me it was a 78 but Im not 100% sure, I thought 78/79 were the same and 80 went to quad headlights? Hopefully I can get the rear frame sections welded in sometime this week, should have all the airbags delivered in a week or two, then I'll be moving the car into the garage to mock everything up to build the suspension!!

Your right Rok_OEM it must be a 79, I always thought the 2 model years were the same but I just did some digging and I see the difference in tail lights your talking about. As cliche as it is training day is the whole reason I wanted a 79 Monte Carlo, Ive been looking for years and when I finally found this one for sale I went the next day and bought it!!
