Door rebuilding started with new water shields and insulation.

As you may have already noticed, we opted to get rid of all chrome on the interior of this car. Anything that was chrome has been powder coated, painted or pinstriped black to give the car its own personality. It’s a small detail that should really make a big difference. You don’t realize how much chrome is in there until you get rid of it….these cars have a lot of chrome screws! Looks brand new, with a couple of extra speakers blasting the greatest hits of the 80's.

Is the lower door panel not all the way on?

To break from our Monte build for a moment, we had to share this custom gauge cluster we just finished for Barrett-Jackson’s #ProjectPrestone build. Pictures just don’t do this cluster justice, it should be a perfect match for their black & yellow themed Aerocoupe. While at SEMA last week, we were able to meet with the folks at Barrett-Jackson and see #ProjectPrestone first hand. The stance, paint, brakes, and finish work have made for a stunning Monte! It has been a pleasure working with the folks at Barrett-Jackson and I think we have come up with a solid plan for the interior that should really complement the car’s beautiful exterior. You can keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates to #ProjectPrestone in the coming weeks or if you guys would like to see some more progress let us know and we can make a separate thread for that.

OK….back to our own build next week. Have a great weekend.

Time for a break from the interior. It's tough keeping all of the new parts clean, so we paused for some rust and paint play. The trunk was in very good shape, just minor surface rust. This car had a left rear lower quarter patch installed and the backside was never finished. Heck, it still had the Goodmark stickers & part numbers on it.

A little more work with the wire brush and the trunk was ready for a couple coats of SEM Rust Trap. This job was quick, which was nice since the interior is just the opposite.

The back seat area started with new insulation to keep external fumes and noise to a minimum and ended with all new panels, rear shelf and PUI’s upholstery.

To keep the kids safe, we installed a new set of belts from Seatbelt Solutions. If you look closely, you may notice that we carried the black theme to the rear with re-striped rear armrest panels and painted C-pillar light bezels. Every screw was replaced with new black oxide to continue the same theme. So many chrome screws in these cars!
