Hey Gbody Crew,

I wanted to order this 2.5” dual exhaust system from Jeggs for my 1979 Olds Cutlass Supreme Brougham, but upon looking at the website it says it doesn’t fit on the Cutlass Supreme.

I posted the question on the Jegg’s site and I got a response that the Cutlass Supreme Sub-Frame is different than other GBodys.

Is this true? And if so what’s different? Also what modifications would be needed in order for this exhaust system to fit?

Also I currently have a dual exhaust system on it, but it’s a terrible hack job, drags on the ground basically, but I do have a dual cut out trans cross member, if that helps answer any questions,

Thanks,

Dylan

It's a full frame; there is no sub-frame. Also, that is a striaght-out-the-back system like Monte. You will have to tweak and fabricate the tail pipes to exit behind the rear wheels like it should.

The Supreme BS is an urban myth, the say the same dam BS about the earlier cars. I too like the Buick/Olds behind the tire exit point.

It'll fit. I think all the basics have been covered here. Yes, the Jegs kit exits out the back like a stock monte carlo would. You can cut this kit off at the last bend so it will exit behind the rear tires like a GN or 442.

You can see where the exhaust is cut here.

I also added an H pipe, the kit has no balance tube.

For the money its actually a decent kit. Everything is mandrel bend, and the piping is of decent quality. The only real gripe I have is the hangers that it comes with suck. They will probably break, I recommend replacing them with something a little more robust. Its pretty easy to change the mufflers out if you'd like.

My 2cents, about all the sense I have. I went with the Pypes cat back for a 85 Monte Carlo with the GN style tailpipes(side exit), SGG50S for my 79 Cutlass with 305 SBC. The last S is the muffler type, S for Street, R for Race, V for violator. The X-pipe style is SGG10+ muffler choice, available on Ebay for $420. I Know that's more $, but it's a stainless steel system. The Pypes website will say there is no application for the Cutlass, but as others have noted, there is no difference in G-body chassis, except El Caminos which are longer wheelbase(9"?) I am very pleased with the fit and sound of my system.

The Cutlass issue is the crossmember - it is apparently not compatible with the 200-4R transmission mount location on the driver's side. The other Cutlass issue is that you will have to do some tweaking to mate the midpipes to Olds headers, which may not terminate in the same place as SBC headers.

Here something to squash this urban legend. Back in November I posted p/n's from the Chevy catalogs & a cross reference for what I could list for the B.O.P.'s in a chassis swap thread. The '83 W40 (Hurst) cars used the same from as the Monte, the W40 cars use the same body as regular Cutlass's, all '78-'88 used the same transmission crossmember for the 3 spd autos/3 & 4 spd manuals, the TH200-4R cars all used the same specific to them crossmember. Now all of them had the same rear suspension regardless of 7.5" or 8.5" rear. The floor pan is the same for them all for the complete production run. Now if those parts catalogers would see that with stock exhaust that all base 231 cars had the same exhaust regardless of division, the same is for each other engine type. Some engine types interchange pipes on the exhust parts list. So if a single set up fits all models, then all models can use what the aftermarket makes. Maybe the guys from Pypes who does the vender posting would look over what has been posted on this forum & updates their catalog listings so the Cutlass isn't treated like an unwanted step child when it comes to exhaust. There is no excuse for any vender not to fully research proper interchanges.

Inquiring minds want to know. I can't see the cut in your image set. Is it in front of the axle? I have two of these kits, and I want to them to end up out the sides like yours.

I cut the pipe right before it makes the last bend to go straight. Hope this makes sense.
