Sounds like the choke coil is grounded. Take the choke coil off and make sure the coil is not touching the ground. Don't be so quick to order a new one cause the choke coil is simple to figure out if there is a problem. Plus if you have build lots of quadrajets don't you have a spare parts box from quadrajets that were busted beyond repair?
Not anymore. I was lucky enough to not have many unsavable parts to begin with, save for some throttle shafts with broken screws, but those can be drilled out. All the qjet coils I have are old crusty hot air ones, don't know why I still have em. Isn't the choke supposed to ground against the carb body? Kinda the whole deal ain't it?

I dug into my wire diagrams & noticed one thing a Buick has different from the Chevy & Pontiac referances, it will have to do with factory oil gauge. There is a choke heater control relay used on the LC8 & LD5 231 using an oil gauge. If your Regal has the oil gauge you might want to look thru your discards from the original engine. It used 4 wires into a three wire plug: the 250 brown/fused choke, 25 brown & white/alternator to warning light, then 78 light blue/choke heater & 931 green & white/choke light sharing the same pigtail location. I believe the relay grounds thru its body to where it mounts. The basic light would be similar to the diagram from Malibu Racing you posted earlier. Have you checked the wires in the harness for nicks, cuts, breaks, or corrosion?
No regals ever had an oil gauge. All they had is speedo, fuel, and rest are idiot lights. This diagram here matches the wires I have in my car, the brown wire has 12v only on Run, etc. I have the brown 250 wire hooked into the pressure sender, and then a wire going from that (blue wire) to the choke itself. It seems self explanatory. The choke/oil light would also come on sometimes after idling for a while and would go off and stay off if I unplugged the choke. Oil pressure is fine, 20+psi hot at idle.

yes the round disk grounds against the housing for the choke coil. "The choke spring is a coiled, bi-metallic design, using two strips of dissimilar metals (usually steel and copper or brass) joined back-to-back. The difference in the metals' thermal expansion rates causes the coil to unwind as heat is introduced, yielding the spring tension necessary to actuate the choke mechanism gradually. Upon cooling, the spring contracts back into a tighter coil."

The heat is cased by a controlled short (aka resistance) between the 12+ and the ground

Driving it around some more, the oil light only comes on when the car is at, or near op temp. Oil pressure is 25psi hot at idle. Sender and pressure fitting are in the same T at the front of the block, the only pressure port on the engine. Think 231 V6.. That spot, next to the timing cover. 'sweird,

The coil unwinds? Sure that isn't talking about the divorced type coil? All my M4MC coils tighten when heat is introduced.
