83 Delta 88 Alternator Wont Charge

The adjuster for the power steering is two 15 mm head bolts. I leave the lower slightly loose and just adjust the tension with a 15mm flat wrench and a bar. On that belt set up you need the A/C and power steering belts need to be on and tight or the alternator belt doesn't move or charge.

Thanks for the info! But just a question, can i access it from above or below the vehicle? Also does the clutch fan need to removed to tighten the belt? I think the belt is pretty worn, that should be changed anyway ig?

Fan stays on and can be reached from the top. The lower bolt on the power steering pump is reached through the hole in the pulley with a rachet an 15mm socket.

Excellent, I will give it a try, however the belt is pretty worn down and may not even grip well anymore.

However, suppose I would want to change the power steering and AC Belt. To get the fan off, does it require a special clutch fan tool? .

Also could the pulleys seizing be a possibility?

Cause once i replace the belts, i dont want to put everything together just to find something else is jammed :S

With my limited disability income, i'm trying to decide on whether paying my friend whos a mechanic to do this or seeing if i can do 100% on my own, but also know when to call it quits with this thing, cause if i invest another $100 into it and i still cant get the battery to at least charge?

Then it might be time for kijiji or the scrapyard *cries*

The pulleys are solid bolted on to the pulleys. I have seen the A/C compressors seize and had the bearing blow apart in a water pump. The power steering I have never seen seize. The belts squeal if they are loose. I removed the A/C belt on my 81 Delta 88. It squealed till it finally burnt the belt off, one belt driving off crank shaft pulley, which is what turns all the accessories wasn't enough.

Sounds good. If its just a belt issue i can work with it.

I'm dealing with the same issues but mine is a 1981 Delta 88. I f u look in the repair manuals- try Chilton version because the Haynes repair manual doesn't tell you about this- you'll see they changed the alternator charging system like 3 times in 3 years, I guess trying to figure it out. I'm changing the fusible links located off the skinny red wires on the starter in a couple weeks and will let you know how it works out. I'm almost certain it's the problem.
