Almost always, especially after it rains, I find the carpet under my passenger floormat is wet, and right in front of the rear bench. Don’t know of any leaking on the drivers side, and I already cleared out the heater box, which I heard can clog and cause cowl leaks

If I were you I'd check the roofrail and door weatherstripping, also the window sweeps just in case. The floor by the rear seat is the low point so any water will eventually end of their(ask me how I know).

Also, the seal that holds the HVAC stuff to the firewall could be causing the leak. That's where mine was leaking from, and the passenger side carpet would be soaked, as well as having a small pond in front of the rear seat!

Scott

Is it left, or right, as in passenger side?

Regardless, beyond the obvious stuff, the seam sealer on the firewall/cowl covered gaps that were a little too wide (not the greatest quality control). With time, it will crack/fall out and apart, and rain water will flow down into your floor pans. Or, if you put in new body bushings and twist the body in the process it will speed up the process.

Not sure about most G-Bodies, but the 1981 and prior F-Bodies were bad for the same thing.

My Malibu sedan does the same thing. Leaks on the right floor board after it rains. No HVAC box so it's something else. Lately my fix is to just keep it parked inside....it's working so far.

Every time I’ve checked it’s only been the right side. If it’s on the left side as well its probably draining through the gaping hole in the floor, lol

Open hood and thoroughly seal off intake for HVAC. The black grid. Take a hose and gently run water all around the evaporator/heater core housing. If you get water in then it is external sealing. Run water gently into the grid and see if it leaks inside. There is a drain under the evap core that could be plugged. If both good then run water along windshield to see if leaks. When you find it let me know as mine leaks and I am following Turbolq4 advice as I don't have time for crap right now
