Thought I'd share a little about a truck we've got here that one of these days is getting fixed up...

It's a half ton (heavy half) 1977 Chevrolet C10 Bonanza. 250 inline 6, th350, 12 bolt rear. Until we bought it in 2014, it never once left the county where it was sold new.

Tonight we took it for a drive for the first time since 2016 after a good bit of work was done today. I haven't been up for wrenching in a while, BUT, convinced my wife to do the physical labor while I guided her... I think she did an amazing job and got a TON done, not even considering this is the FIRST time she's worked on a car before.

Today the truck got:

* its refurbished gas tank/brackets/straps/sending unit
* new sending unit to steel fuel line rubber line assemblies
* refurbished filler neck, new neck gasket, new fuel filler tube, new vent tube
* new rubber fuel line to fuel pump
* new fuel pump
* new carb base gasket
* nos carb from '82
* nos air cleaner/thermac with vacuum lines
* pcv valve/hose/air filters etc
* new ignition coil
* new vacuum modulator
* new ignition module
* new distributor rotor/cap
* new plugs/wires

So after all that we took her for a ride to the shell station for a meal of 90 octane ethanol free.

Still needs a lot of work. In face, if anyone somewhat local to georgia has some rust/dent free original gm front fenders, or, someone willing to ship has nos gm fenders.... might be interested (among other parts.)

looks like you've got a pretty good base to start with, and a cool back story to it. glad you were able to get the wife involved on it, as mine wants the work done, just doesn't want her hands in it...

You know, she made some minor complaints here and there along the way. But then again, while we were at the gas station after she told me 'you know, it's kind of nice to be driving around in something you worked on yourself' so there's a glimmer of hope there. I doubt she going to jump in on it as a hobby, hut, the occasional help? The lack of objections to spending money on it? An attachment to keeping it for the long haul? I bet tons of progress was made on that front.

Sweet another square don't look to bad eather

Looks can be deceiving lol. The body is GREAT for rust (minus a little paint burn and rubbed smooth brown patina) other than the passenger fender that suffered battery leakage and the dredged dog leg rust from leave/pine needles.

However, her time as a farm truck left massive dents in the driver fender, pass door, and driver bedside...

Still.... I take dents over rot any day of the week. Especially on a bolt on bed panel that only has one 3" weld at the rear sill on the entire thing.
