With my 2.78 gears, those ratio's would be ideal. It would live behind my 350 but if I piece together a 9.6 to 1 403 or turn my 350 into a stroker, it would die quickly. I may be happy with it my 70S with the current 350. My daughter ran the 2004R low on fluid and cooked it. It had a 2300 stall in it. In my wisdom, I seem to have thrown out my 2500 stall TH350C converter:(. With the stock stall, it sucks off the line.

Oh I've had plenty of those "wisdom moments". I'm gonna soon see how well those ratios work when i put in the rebuilt rear with 3.42s. It's spinning at just under 2000 rpm at 60mph now. I calculated about 2300 rpm at that speed with the 3.42s.
We'll see.

Yeah, 2K is getting up there, by the time I add a bell housing, pedals, clutch set up etc, 4 grand. Is the ZF5 the early 90's German 6 spd trans from the ZR1 Corvette? They are supposed to be quite robust and they are reasonable priced used.

No the ZF5 comes behind 460s and 7.3s in mid 90s Fords.

After replacing the T5 several times I'm guessing you're long past the 2k mark even if you don't consider time invested.

You should be less than that, especially if your 88 has the common 2.56 gears. I use this calculator, very accurate with a lock up converter or with your manual trans.

I know it's under 2000, not sure by how much and also not sure it's 2.56 . it came from a 4 door Cutlass no idea what year. Changed it in '09. Just put it in and kept it moving.

I see a wrecker has a T-5 from a 1995 Camaro with really low miles with the 3.4 V6, assume it will be the same trans.
