Hey fellas, I have a 1987 Camino I just bought. Seems like everything is original for the most part. It has the driver side rear view mirror but missing the knob to move the mirror. Just a hole in the panel. Is there anywhere I can buy a replacement from?

Also the knob for the passenger mirror is there on the gauge cluster but its not attached to the gauge cluster. How do I go about attaching it? It just hangs loose. Thanks for any info

Welcome and you have to post a few picture of the El Camino, there are a few guys here with El Caminos that will help you out. I'm not sure if the knobs for the mirrors for an El Camino are the same as the rest of the G bodies.

With regard to the driver mirror, have you looked I side the door yet?

Gbody power mirrors had a long cable that isn't easily disassembled (intended to be replaced as a unit) and at the knob end, there was a tiny bronze colored headless stud that screwed in from the side of the bezel to nest it a recessed lip on the cable. (If that makes sense)

Many years, miles, and sometimes repair jobs later, that threaded post works loose and a strong push on the adjusting knob forces it through the hole, falling down it the door.

Check behind your door panels if it's loose inside there. If it isnt, it was probably cut and you're likely looking for a replacement mirror assembly.

Welcome aboard. Do you have the bezel on the lower door panel?

If so it's quite possible the set screw that holds the mirror adjuster may have back off and the cable could be in behind the door panel...here's a pic of the set screw..

As for the RH side remote mirror there is a clip that holds the bezel to the gauge panel...I don't have access to a pic of that at work here but could probably post one tonight.

Oh ok, I'll have to check my door panel. There is no bezel, just a hole in the door panel. And as far as the gauge cluster I see any clip anywhere. The guy I bought it from already had it disassembled

Yeah if there's no bezel there's nothing to mount the mirror adjuster to...here's a pic of the bottom of the bezel..

We love pics of the car here too.

Hey, pics make far more sense than my ramblings lol... you may have beaten me if I wasn't more or less confined to resting for the next day or two, I'd have headed out to see if some parts were lying around the workshop to take pics of much the way you did!
