Forget my original thread about the OEM/Alpine radios. This is making me nuts.

This morning I spoke to the owner of a stereo shop that told me I needed the two little brackets off of an OEM radio so I could mount the Metra box into the Monte dash. I went to the local yard and pulled them off of a factory Delco radio that was in a Cutlass. Easy right ? NOPE. Not for me.
I put the two brackets on the plastic box and now its too wide to fit into the opening. Probably by at least 3/16".
I assumed the Cutlass dash and the Monte/Malibu had to be close in dimensions where the radio mounts. I guess not.
I have some of the textured plastic left over from the gauge mount that I made but to be honest I dont want to spend hours fabricating something if theres something already made to do what I need.
For Monte owners, do the OEM radios have the same plastic bracket on the sides holding them into the dash ? Black plastic angles that are held on with a 10MM nut ? If not what do they have ?
Are Cutlass radios held in with something different ? Did I wind up with the wrong stuff at the yard ?
This is all thats left as far as the dash. I need to get it finished so I can move on.
Anyone ?
I dont want to use an OEM radio since I have these two Alpines.

The ones in my Bonneville are basically a piece of sheet metal with a 90 degree bend in it and 2 tabs to lock into the slots on the side of the factory radio. There are a few variations out there, but if the screw holes on the outside line up and the bracket does not have a built in angle, then you should be good. Could it be as simple as the bolt that mounts the brackets sticking out too far?

The bracket needs to have an angle so it can attach to the sleeve from Metra. The brackets from the Cutlass are thick plastic. Maybe I need to find a set in metal. I have a stamped metal one from my 81 but its totally different.

I have these from the Cutlass. Makes everything too wide.

I also have one of these. Not even close.

Mine have the general shape of the big one, but are physically smaller.

Luckily, mine is out of the car right now:

The plastic Cutlass radio brackets are unique to the Cutlass. Monte Carlo had stamped steel. This is the issue.

Thanks for the replies guys ! I just got back from a different yard that had a really hammered Monte in the back corner. I was lucky to find the original radio on the rear floor covered in junk. Sure enough, it had the metal brackets. I got them for $5.00. It looks like its going to work !
