Hello all... I’m new to the forum and looking for some guidance. I recently purchased new sweeps for my ‘87 442 and the windows wont go down far enough for me to get to some of the screws.

I’ve lowered the 10mm window stop and I STILL can’t get to the screws. Am I missing something here? Is there a trick to solving this dilemma?

Hmmm, can you post a couple pics showing the topline of the glass in relation to the sweep?
The windows have to go all the way down to access the screws. If you look across the top inside edge of the door, the steel has little reliefs where each screw is allowing you to go straight in.

I recently put new sweeps on my Cutlass, but the glass was still out. I circled what I mean. If you look at your door you will see what I mean. Sorry, best pic I could find...

I could believe that Steve, especially if you don't have a helper to guide the window in. My brother in law and myself teamed up. As I lowered the glass he was pulling the sweeps out to avoid ripping them.

I replaced the sweeps on my Monte recently and I was able to do it with the glass still in the door. The panel on the interior of the door needs to come off. If you have electronic window controls, make sure the glass is down inside the door before removing the panel. With the interior door panel removed, look for an adjustment screw in the cradle that is holding the glass and loosen that screw. This will allow the glass to sink further in the door allowing you access to the sweeps screws. Having a magnet telescoping tool handy is useful just in case you drop a screw inside the door. Also a good time to spray a little wD40, fluid film or or lubricant of choice on the metal inside the door just to prevent any rust issues down the road.

I made a tool for this when I did them on my Regal. I'll try to post pics tonight.

This is what I have used for many years. It does make it easier to remove the door panel like others have said.
