Hello! Haven't been here in a while. Been busy with a lot of stuff. Anyway, getting back into driving the 442 again, after a long winter. I believe the air shocks need replaced. The car sits a little crooked, a bit lower on the right rear than the left. It also sags when I have someone in the back on the right side. The springs look good. They still have part of the tag on them. One of the shocks has fluid leaking out of it (left side). I believe these may be the original shocks.

Anyway, does anyone know the correct GM part number for the shocks? Rock Auto has the part number as 504564.

Don't know the original part number, but Monroe and ac/Delco has them on their sites. They sell single and dual air valve versions.

Went to AC Delco site, and the number matched - 504-564. May try the shocks first, then springs if I need them. Have to save some money for tires.

Thanks for the info on where to find that.

Last known p/n for the factory style GM air shock was 22046433 for LH and 22046434 for RH. Everything in that system was sold by the piece darn near. The fill valve, the air lines, air line clips, etc. The 504-564 appears to be a kit (look like Gabriel hijackers to me, but I'm not sure) and will probably suffice, but they're not like the factory style, unless you don't care about that. Air lines cannot be reused since the Delco kit has screw on connectors while the original stuff was push on/clip on.

JMO, the leaning isn't likely from the shocks. 99% of the time in my experience, leaning is caused by a weak spring or in the extreme, something is bent that shouldn't be. Think about it. If you took the shocks off, the car would still be held up by the spring. The shocks only dampen bumps and rebounds.

It's also likely the air pressure for shock wouldn't be at fault for the lean because they share the air pressure and self equalize.Unless there's something in the air line to one of the shocks that's clogging it- extremely zero to miniscule chance of that, however. If the shocks are still good on the original, air leaks on the original systems are normally due to the tiny little double O-rings on the air lines drying/cracking. Replacing those usually helps.

It's a good idea to ensure that your factory air shocks maintain a minimum of 25 psig. The delco replacement kit also recommends minimum of 25 psig. IMO, it sorta sucks because at least with the factory air shocks, the car sits up a bit in the back even with the minimum.

Just some things to consider.

I checked on the availability of the GM shocks, and of course they were discontinued. Looking at the Delco compared to Gabriel, they do look the same. I don't know that there would be much choice, because the factory ones are not available, and I haven't heard anything good about Monroe for a while. As for price, the Delco shocks are $66.79 on Rock Auto and the Gabriels are $114.79...twice as much for the same shocks! I can put that money into springs.
Speaking of springs, I will look into getting some new ones. 88hurstolds posted the link to the Moog part numbers. The Moog 5391 is $86.79 a set. What I would hate to see is putting the new springs on the back without changing the front...would hate to have the rear end suddenly too high. No, I am not ready to change front springs...not something I'm ready to get into.
Thanks for the help.
