Had a severe oil leak from the Briggs & Stratton v twin on our riding mower. Found out it was the base gasket. Pulled the enfine, flipped it upside down, yanked the base off. Yep, blown out by the starter. Common problem when they get some hours on them. Six hours start to finish and then mowed the lawn. Also found the drain valve was loose and leaking too. Also had a huge mouse nest in it from the winter.

Oh... well... now isn't that just lovely news. We have a B&S on our JD D140... which I had to jump with the battery from the wagon yesterday.

Single cylinder or twin? Valve adjustment is crucial on both for the decompression release to work otherwise the starter doesn't have enough uummph to crank it over. Pull the valve cover and set lash to .005 on all the valves. That's a very common issue

Twin. We are just over 50 hours on it. IIRC, setting the lash was in the next service interval. Damn thing gets Wix filters and Royal Purple oil changes... so it better not fail.

I'll give you a hint, you can use Motorcraft FL400S oil filters. Walmart had them cheap and they are just as good if not better than Briggs filters and much cheaper!

Had a load moved from the barn to the workshop...

One trip: one 12 bolt axle assby with springs; one 350 flow master exhaust; one 20 gallon gas tank with filler; one radiator core support; two tailgates; four 31" tires on rallyes; 7 front square body doors; one step/tow bumper.

Rush hour traffic kept a nice distance away - nobody cut the truck off, nobody tailgated it... most pleasant 5 oclock drive down i20, up i285, and up I75 I can ever remember.

Manual is probably in there. Power, not so much. I'd need to check the splines on the crank shaft to make sure that they weren't damaged by "vice grip" good ol boy handles. Out of all those spare doors, only 4 are rusted and "parts" quality.
