EEK!

While the 4.3 is under powered for that size vehicle that reminds me of the 1.6 turbo in my work Ford Escape that had and engine/trans replaced at 58K, too small and over stressed. Buy the extended warranty........

310 HP and 348 lb ft of torque is plenty sufficient for that truck. There are tons of V8 trucks that don't make that much HP and Torque and they do just fine. Sure the 4 cyl probably makes that power high up in the rev range than the V8s, but 1/2 the people buying these trucks are soccer moms anyways.

Personally I think it is pretty cool, and I'm sure Ford and FCA (though FCA usually takes a while to play catch up with the other two) will follow suit.

Turbo 4 cylinder that is set up for RWD and possibly a SBC bellhousing pattern...I'm in, time to start cruising the junkyards.

For the soccer moms & status symbol city guys the turbo 4 should make them happy, but it's not really a full size truck engine in my eyes. With the 4/2 cylinder feature there could be some bad ju-ju. The V8 8/7/6/5/4/3/2/1 cylinder feature in something more odd. But all in the name in (currently) unattainable MPG. Is it me or does the '19 seem to look like a Toyota with its body lines the more I see it?

Not surprising. Times are a changin'. Roll with it or get rolled over.

I think the 2019 Silverado looks *ss ugly compared to the previous version but the 4 cyl option makes me hate it less.

Peak torque at 1,500 RPM, not bad.

Not bad at all, pardon my ignorance for not reading the article.

Considering 75% of pickup buyers are just buying a tall 4wd suv with a place to haul their bags of leaves so they don't make their carpet dirty, it will be fine.

It probably won't last 300k like a v8 pickup, but the original owners don't care. Once it's returned after 3 years on lease it doesn't matter. I swear 75% of pickups end up never having a hitch slid in the receiver.
