Cant seem to figure this out. ive used small screwdriver tip style removal tool but wires wont budge...plus there is a ton of goop on connector from factory

There is a 7 mm bolt in the center of the two harnesses. Remove the bolt completely and you can remove the harness connectors which will give you more room to work on them. I'm not sure what type of terminals are in the connector though so I'm not sure how to remove them.

The connectors are Packard 56 or 59 depending on the width. You need to gently squeeze them together to get one out. I used a pair of bent needle nose pliers. The spade has a little leg on one side that needs to be bent in so it will slide out. I think the "goop" is like dielectric grease to keep a good watertight connection. I did the same thing on both of my cars.
You can buy new connectors if you screw them up from multiple places online. I got them from this place. http://www.texasindustrialelectric.com/_packard_terminals.asp

You can see the leg I was talking about in the photos. Only downside is to get the crimp right you might need a special crimper. I was doing both cars so I wound up buying a crimper set. The one I bought has multiple dies so I figured I'd have a use for it another time. LOL

I think my setup may be different. I am familiar with the packard 56 and 59 series connectors. I actually redid a few other things in system. I am led to believe these are pack-con connectors. I attached a pic below of setup and I do not see the split in connector for packards

This is a pack con connector. Im assuming you would have to squeeze the little prongs on the side in to slip the connector out. To be honest Ive never seen a connector like that in a bulkhead connector. Maybe someone else can shed some light on this. Im sure if you use some contact cleaner and a small brush you can clean up some of the grease and see how they pop out.

I've only seen them inside the cars used with lighting & speakers.
same I have only seen that pack-con terminal inside fuse panel, but that is listed as a pack-con III. here is a pic of what I thought connector was which is listed as pack-con...but should just have one side to unclip using screwdriver type terminal tool. unfortunately that has not worked yet

Have you cleaned up all the grease ? I used contact cleaner and a cut down paint brush and got all that old crap out of my connector before I took it apart. Once everything was back in place I put new dielectric grease on all the male spades and put it back together. I never heard of those connectors before this thread. Kinda glad you posted. Learn something new every day.

I just remembered that either '85 or '86 the teminal ends in the bulkhead connector changed cause the '86 I parted out years back didn't match my the one for my '81.
