Yes the HVAC box forms that side of the cowl....

Gbodyparts.com has a heater delete panel for the cowl...

If you're going to be driving the car in cooler weather you may want to have some kind of air movement to keep the windshield clear...

Well, didn't get any progress on the monte today, but for whatever dumb reason, I had never even looked at the odometer, and boy I was in for a shock!

Apparently this is the lowest mileage car I own! :LOL: haha jokes on me! Pulled the carfax and it looks like there's actually 169,000 miles on it roughly. According to the reported odometer readings though, It's been parked since 2000, which looking at the body, I believe that it's been outdoors most of that time...

Looks like I'm the lucky third owner! (or fourth if you count the auction company that sold this car back in 93 (my birth year!))

Wiring harness isn't as bad as it looked. Turns out most of the "chopped off limbs" are what is left over of the engine wiring harness which was utterly destroyed when someone decided to swap in the 350, so I might not have enough wire to even splice a harness for the engine swap, but we'll see what happens.

Looks like pretty much everything for the heat and a/c has been removed except for the actual control box, so.... looks like I'm going to be putting a "delete panel" in place to keep the rain out (and keep the floor from rusting up even more).

On that note, there's no wiper cowl or drip tray on the passenger side. Is this built into the missing heater/ac panel?

Mike at Mike's Montes also has what you need;

Mike is an awesome guy to deal with,he is one of the best G Body Vendors on the market.
He also strips junked cars and has parts not listed on his website.

I have had my '81 Monte before you showed up in the world, 1990. I put my factory gauges in back in '93.

As others have noted with out the heater or A/C units in you'll need that replacement panel to keep water run off from eating the firewall & body mount. I would suggest rigging in a drain tube off it to route the run off away from everything. A good hot rod type add on heater should be used to help keep the windsheild clear & have some heat on chilly nights.

I'm seeing 6,959.5 which could be 106,959...or 206,959...or 506,959. Might not even be the original cluster. None of it really even matters at this point anyway. Looks like a fun project. Get it running and drive the wheels off it.

Well, not loads of progresses, but picked up a vortec carb adapter for cheap!

Next I'll order the correct linkage for my Holley carburetor and transmission.

More to come!
