Ideally, the fronts should always lock up before the rears, unless you want to die the next time it rains.

Larger rotors are easier to modulate under hard braking, so if the fronts lock, reduce braking pressure slightly and they will unlock. If the rears lock you can be spinning out of control before you reduce braking pressure.

My curiosity is with the similar disc size frond and rear on my Monte, the braking is quite even front to back. That is to say neither lock up as is currently set up. My hesitation is if the much larger front brakes will result in less balance though they will have a greater stopping ability.

One really doesn't know how "even" their braking is until they test it on slick pavement in the wet. If nothing ever locks, then maybe the front or rear can use more, but one doesn't really know. Most of the braking is done with the front brakes. Assuming the car stops normally before, adding more front brake on a front engined car can never be bad, from a braking stand point. Maybe a rear engined car can use bigger brakes in back, but ours can't.

If the fronts can lock easily , you CAN move braking to the rear, but you don't have to.

If the rears can lock easily, YOU HAVE to move braking to the front, or you WILL crash.

I agree, my car just stops even and flat with zero lock. I use 2000 Blazer front and rear and must say that GM did a great job with matching these components.

With that, I also believe the OP hit on a wonderful combination which once again relies on factory engineered and matched parts with a a car with a quite similar weight as the the parts original application.

Today I installed C5 Z06 front brakes on my SS. I had been piecing this together over the last couple weeks.

Parts breakdown:

ZQ8 Spindle Adapter Brackets: $125 (eBay, link constantly changes, have to search ZQ8 C5 Brake Adapters)
C5 Z06 Calipers, Brackets, Lines: $180 (VetteVillians)
Z06 Rotors & Ceramic Pads: $135 (I pulled the ones that were on my C5 Z06 and put drilled & slotted on it)
Getting Z06 Rotors turned: $20
Disc/Disc Brass Combination Valve: $50 ( http://www.highwaystars.net/brake-p...places-gm-1257189-4-wheel-disc-brake-systems/ )

All this here is $510, which isn't too bad.

The first thing I had done was install the Disc/Disc Valve, pretty much a direct swap.

Since I had the newer Blazer Brakes on the front, I already had the ZQ8 Spindles. I bought the adapter kit for that which came with some instructions and all the needed hardware. It was pretty straightforward. The Spindle required clearancing with a grinder

Test fitting the adapter bracket. I had painted this, it comes raw steel.

Once that was good I test fitted the Z06 Caliper Brackets

Z06 Calipers and Ceramic Pads went on

Then the lines installed. I had to install new flare nuts, the ones on the car were bonded to the other lines pretty much. I used the C5 Z06 lines, the bottom required a little bending to clear properly.

They fill up the wheel nicely. Took it on a very short test drive because of the weather and the difference was very noticeable. Once the pads seat in it will be nice.

Rear Calipers were painted to match, the rear has LT1 Fbody Disc Brakes.

Very Nice!! Did the same on my 87 Buick Grandnational. Front and rear z06 C6 calipers. Stop on a dime!

I don't get in here much, been busy.

For those that didn't like my comment, the guy was trolling my post on FB as well with ignorance and if you're dumb, well I'm going to tell you.

The rotors are almost 2" larger, therefore that is more leverage that the pads can stop the car with...it's farther out from the center, simple physics here. So of course they would "lock up" sooner, its easier to stop the rotating mass there. I mean if bigger brakes weren't better than why are we all swapping them on... yea I don't need to beat this dead horse here..

Feedback on them, as mentioned, is they do lock up sooner and are way better than the blazer stuff. I was smoking the pads on the front rotors with the blazer stuff during hard braking from 60mph down..would get to about 25mph and be spponnnngy... because they were HOT..could smell it. Yea problem solved with the Z06 stuff.

What do you mean?
Did you run wheel spacers for the front so the caliper doesn't rub against the inside of the rim? I've heard from seeing other people that do the corvette brake swap with torque thrust style rims spacers were needed for clearance compared to other rims.
