Does anyone have a picture of the exhaust route on a 83-88 Monte Carlo SS? I will be wanting to run true duals when I start my project and would like a picture for reference so i can map out how I am going to do it. I Will be swapping out the motor for a LQ4 block but not sure which transmission I will go with.

Are you looking for just from the cat back or from the manifolds/crossover back? I'll try to get some shots from under my 88 SS this weekend. Has a Torque Tech 2 1/2 cat back system.

SS and frankly every G body ran a cat back system from the factory so anything with dual exhaust is going to be custom anyways

Just replaced exhaust in my 81 El Camino with 2-1/2" Pypes dual for G-bodies. Swapped the crossmember for G-force dual cutout rather than cutting, boxing, etc the stock single crossmember. Added benefit of switching crossmember, despite cost, was really solid extra strength for frame/body. Don't need to pass smog here so no need for cat converters. Except for some work needed to connect Pypes to headers, was a very straightforward swap. Summit even shipped the exhaust kit without added ground freight for oversize.

Well, my car is an '80 Grand Prix and not an '83-'88 Monte Carlo... but my exhaust kit is designed for a Monte Carlo SS so I guess I still count. This is the Pypes dual 3" system with x-pipe, attached to long tube headers which are hanging off my big block Chevy:

That looks nice GrandPrix, mine looks much the same with crossmember, just don't have a picture to post. I'm running a sbc 350.

How do you like that setup? Looking to do the 2.5" on my 350 install. I want to do the behind wheel versus straights. Is it too loud in the cabin that close up?

How do you like that setup?

I am very pleased with this setup. Having the pipes face this direction creates nice sound reflection when you're next to a Jersey barrier, or when going under an overpass, or when another car pulls alongside at a red light, etc.

Is it too loud in the cabin that close up?

No, definitely not. If anything, I wish this setup were a little louder. Maybe it's the x-pipe; perhaps its the straight-through muffler design I chose. Either way, there are times when this is too quiet for my tastes (and I never thought I'd say that about a dual 3" system).

On the plus side, at least I don't get a headache from noise/drone while cruising down the highway.

Thank you very much for the pictures GrandPrix. They are extremely helpful. Other than the cross member was there anything else you had to change or modify to fit the pipes?
