along with a posi and 4 good winter tires I would throw in 100lbs of sand over each rear wheel and my G body would go just about anywhere in the snow...:)

Easy look for a early blazer with a gov-loc and 26 spline axels. Not sure of the gear ratio but you could always use the ring and pinion from the blazer. Also the S-10s and GMC are also a 7.5, just be sure the spline count is the same as you Gbody. Check EBAY always a lot of gov-locs on the site.

This is a case where a gov bomb can be used. I used a No slip and studded tires, it helped a lot.

I suggest the Detroit truetrac, they have the 26 and 28 spline versions. From what I've read you can upgrade to 28 spline axles if you don't already have them, drop in replacements.

The Trutrac or Zexel Torsen are good because they eliminate the tiny 7.5" spider gears, another reason the 7 5/8" rear is stronger.

Sorry to say I have a gov-lock in my Silverado. I know it and drive it accordingly, These things can engage violently.

I had the gov-lock in both my S10 Blazers and loved it in the snow, also did a great job offroad.
