So I took the switch out to clean it and put it on new dash panel, plugged it in and it worked few times then light no longer came on. Shows i am getting power to the plug that plugs into back of switch. Can this be rebuilt? Common issue? I often have 4 or more people in the car and window fogging up is an issue so I would like to resolve. Thanks

Solid state timer on that thing. It may be screwing up. There's no repairing the timer except for replacement. Mike's Montes has used ones. I saw a new one on ebay for 99 bucks, but doubt you want to go that route.

Same part number fits Montes and 84-89 Buick B-bodies. Also found in 82-83 Celebrity and consoles of 3rd gen Camaros. Originally part number 14039687, then 14043220, before landing on the one you have now.

$13 shipped for a used one, but you'd be no worse off than you are now:

Yeah I was looking for my own '83 Bonnewagon but it was not there. I believe this '87 Monte is adaptable. My switch is hard to get engaged and then it sticks "ON".

Nice work Bonnewagon . Interestingly the part you found states 86-88 Monte. 85 and earlier use a different part number for some reason?

It's the exact same as my switch. It could possibly work with yours if you get the bezel from Mike's montes. You would have to trim dash panel to fit the bezel, then snap bezel on and install switch. If screws dont line up you could heat stake it like the information cluster lens/housing.

I had to cut the opening for switch on new dash panel as the repops don't have any holes for passenger remote mirror or defog.

I figured I should open the dash and see exactly what I had. Mine has 5 terminals compared to 4 on what I found for sale. Only 1 of mine on Fleabay for $33 and no sort of guarantee, not even, "worked when pulled". Nothing. So I squirted mine with WD-40 and worked the rocked a while then reinstalled it. Now it works, goes on, stays on, light lights, and goes off. I got lucky for a change how about that !
