You did a very good job putting the engine bay together. It looks factory and very nice. I can't get enough of your car! I like seeing other things done. As good as a LS engine is, I think a LT1 is a good option for many. Not everything is about high horsepower.
Thanks. Glad you liked my project thread.
I agree, the LT1 is a good option if it can be done for a reasonable price. I still like the L98 TPI engine too. I got a lucky find on a 60K mile one back in 2013 and picked it up and it's 700R4 for installing in my 1957 pickup restomod. Unlike the El Camino, that one was a complete cab-off job. In case you or anyone else is interested, here is a detailed build thread on that truck:

And btw, I put the Bosch 3 injectors on this engine as well.

Thanks. As you can tell I'm proud of this car. More than I've ever been.

A couple of things of note. I replaced the original injectors at the beginning of this refresh project. They were giving me a little trouble and were getting worse. This shows injectors can be problematic just from age since the miles on this engine are so low. I upgraded to Bosch 3 injectors and I think they are a much better injector. It seemed to make a difference in how well it runs and it idles smoother than it ever did. Until this refresh, I was running the stock exhaust manifolds that came on the 305 with the original cross over to single exhaust. I had also knocked the innards out of the cat and installed a large single pipe back to a Camaro sideways single in dual out muffler. At the time I originally installed the LT1, I changed the rear to a 3.42 posi.

My new setup is with the short headers (D port) and a 2 1/2" dual pipe setup with an X-pipe crossover. Mufflers are long Dynamax Super Hemi Turbos. This new exhaust setup improved the power from the engine tremendously. I'd say it feels similar powered to the Ramjet 350 I have in my '55 Bel Air and it's 350HP with 400 ft-lbs.

Several years ago I took this car to a dragstrip. I turned a 14.60 at 93 mph with the old 15X7 wheels and small sized tires on the back. I'd be interested to see what it would do now. I don't even need to go to the dragstrip since I also upgraded to the Dakota Digital VHX gauge setup. It will give me 0-60 as well.
Nice work and a great car !

You couldn't find a 350 Chevy around here to save your life. All the yards export them to the Middle East as soon as they come in.
Wow i never heard of that , they must be paying good money for them ?

How tough is the ZF 6 speed trans? It sounds fairly robust but big boost would find any weak spots. The big difference is head flow, think LT-1/Vortec heads, what low 200 cfm stock vs 300 cfm stock? Of course I am not an LS fan, they were gutless dogs in every truck I drove, my 94 Z71 with an Olds 350 with 8.5 to 1, 204/214 cam, stock 307 5A heads, TBI with a stock tune, shorty's and duals out performed them, with the 454 TBI, plain blew them away. The new Gen 5 LT direct injection motors are a different story, powerful and fuel efficient even in an overweight truck. It all depends what you want.

It's best to stay away from the ZF. They require a dual mass flywheel and an unsprung clutch disc. Parts for them are ridiculously high and they are extremely hard to work on. It would be very difficult to find a mechanic that knows how to work on them. Even if you find someone, I've heard of prices like $3,500 to rebuild one.
I had a friend put one in an '81 Malibu and he was never happy with it. He could never get it quite right and ended up changing to a T56.

You guys need to knock it off, because now I want to build a LT1. Along with a LS, 3800, and a roller 327.

I know the lt4 engines with the red intakes are getting cheaper too if your wanting a little bit more power and higher compression then the standard lt1 out of fbodys or bbodys
