Hey everyone, hopefully someone here has done what I am in the middle of doing right now -- which is T-top restoration.

It started as a simple weatherstrip replacement, but you know what that most likely uncovers these days--rust.

Mine wasn't too bad, but I had to replace the passenger side rear weatherstrip retainer, which was kind of a pain in the *ss. I also had to fabricate a small driver side front retainer piece; for the left drivers side weatherstrip retainer (which was where I had water leaking in for years by the driver side A-pillar). I also had to weld in some small sections on the roof that where rusted out. That's all done.

From here I have a few Questions:

1) There was a bunch of foam strips and rubber pads on the top under the T-top plates and center plate - does anyone know where I can find that? I'm guessing some type of 3M foam tape and stick rubber pads of some sort.

2) For the butyl caulk, should I buy a few packs of 3M 08578 Black 1' Strip Calk, or is there a good butyl caulk anyone can recommend in a caulk gun tube?

3) Does anyone know what kind of paint was used there? I'm looking to just epoxy coat the whole top, then paint with a SS Urethane.

Any help is appreciated; I'll get some pictures if needed.

I didn't put it back together yet, I just replaced the retainer, cut out some rust spots, and welded some patches in. The project has been sitting.

I have to paint the whole section with epoxy and then i'll put everything back together. I'm waiting for the weather to get a bit warmer for the epoxy, as I'm here in NY and doing this in my garage.

Can you take a measurement of this Part if this is still attached to your car. It's the steel for the weather stripping and the trim piece. I put new steels on and am struggling to get it together. So looking from the bottom of trim piece to the new channel measurement if that makes sense.

I'm not sure what you're referring to on the measurement?

Everything that is removable is off the t-top section, except for the weatherstrip retainer pieces. I had to replace the rear passenger side, which was a pain in the *ss. I also had to weld in a piece on the roof and the corner where the roof bends over onto the retainer (where the spot welds were onto the original retainer). Also, in the corner on the drivers side front weatherstrip retainer, I fabricated a piece to match up with the original retainer and weld up a rusted out hole.

Now I am just waiting to epoxy everything before I put it all back together.

I was asking here what everyone used for all the single and double sided tape and foam strips that was used under the t-top center section and under the steel t-top plates that cover everything, which can be seen in your picture, as you still have them attached.

Also the really thin double sided tape that was under the thin trim pieces ( 2 pieces in the front, and a 1-piece across the rear). No idea what to use here either. I'm guessing 3m has to have something to use.

Honestly, If I find a clean Monte SS without the t-tops, I'm going for it. This is like the worst thing ever... it's hard to get the proper parts to fix this; I can't even find weatherstrip that has a good fit.
