Update- my older sister finally got permanently hired by her employer. She's a teacher (that's another rant for another day :blam:) and has been doing long term subbing, but she finally got hired permanently, so she is guaranteed a job next year. What that means for me is that she can afford a car payment, so she can go out and buy/lease whatever the **** she wants, and I can get the Camry back.

The CEL came on yesterday, I haven't pulled the code yet, I'm not really worried about it. The oil consumption does seem to have slowed down with the Lucas motor molasses running in it, and the startups are significantly quieter. So again I'm remaining cautiously optimistic. I'm not gonna fix anything on it until she actually has her own vehicle, which may be a month or two out yet, but now that she has actually been hired for real, she has the means to buy her own car and her reign of torture over the poor Camry can end.

Glad it's still hanging on. I had my doubts.

Man, some of you guys have some messed up siblings!

At the risk of offending, it sounds like the parents in these cases needed to learn about "tough love" rather than enabling the unmotivated

As sad as it is, no amount of tough love can fix stupid.

I really did too. I'm still not calling it a win yet, but there is a glimmer of hope for it.

She thinks she is gonna buy a Mercedes or BMW for her first car. She keeps finding ones with R titles for really cheap and doesn't understand what an R title even is. I honestly hope she buys one and the insurance and maintenance costs drive her to the poorhouse.

Now growing up was a little different as the big brother didn't want nothing to do with her (LOL)..... I am sorry for your pain my friend. Hope things get better for you.

Yeah, BMWs are really forgiving when you ignore oil changes.
No better life lesson than a car you owe $30k on that needs an engine. I certainly wouldn't encourage her to do that but spite might let me watch it happen.

As the "family car expert" she keeps texting me pictures of these cars she found (God knows where she even found them) wanting to know "what I think of them" (so she can blame me when it breaks). I texted her back that she can't afford the maintenance and insurance so stop wasting my time sending them to me. I said she should look for a CPO RAV4 or Forester or CR-V or something. 30 seconds later she called me bawling like a 3 year old about how she wants a Mercedes. I just set the phone down and walked away.

I told her it's stupid once and I'm not wasting my breath saying it again. Like you said, I won't encourage it, but spite won't let me stop it from happening.

Tell her to buy a Tesla, with that there no fluids and if the car runs out of juice it's an easy fix..... unless she is a blonde....:giggle:

What, she teaching in Sewickley, Fox Chapel, Mt. Lebanon or North Allegheny & act like she has to impress/be like the staff or students families? Something to make sure she can get to work until she can afford her own place would be the right course of action.
