My 700 4R was rebuilt 4K miles ago (new case) and hasn't shifted to my liking since. Before rebuild 1-2 was at 12-15mph, 2-3 was around 30mph and 3-4 was 40-45. After rebuild 1-2 is at 20 (even if driving the neighborhood at 15mph and no load), 2-3 is 25mph and 3-4 is not until 55mph. I have adjusted TV cable up and down, all that changes is 2-3 which I can move to 30mph.

Do I have a governor issue? Have I overlooked something?

PS - the transmission shop response has been - 'Shifts right to me!'

Some of this is very subjective to the desires of the driver, and is why full manual control or electronics are favourable. The 200-4R in my Monte never shifted when I wanted it to after the rebuild... a bunch of quick shifts throws it into OD at a low road speed. So I put a gated shifter in it and rowed gears until the cows came home; heck even my wagon and TBSS get gears selected for them (and I programmed their shift points to taste).

That said, I'd suggest there is something wrong with your transmission's programming. 1-2 is long. 2-3 can be made acceptable up to/at 30. And 3-4 is right out in left field - OD by 40 is more realistic.

Funny you mention this... My 200-R4 shifts to OD (4th) way early... like 40mph early, and its so early, its around 800rpm and will clatter the valves. I finally just got in the habit of putting it in 3rd and running it until I hit the highway @ 55-60, then plop it in OD.

I should qualify that by saying my car has 4.56s soooo 40mph is like 50 in a normal car. Lock-up was only at 60mph... manually.

1st thing 1st - you DO NOT adjust shift points with the TV cable ever, period, end of story. If your transmission shop has advised to do this, then I would not return. The TV cable's purpose is to ensure proper line pressure to handle the torque of the motor.

Have you measured the line pressure and set your TV cable correctly? Whats in front of it and what's behind it, meaning motor and rear end? When it does shift, how are the shifts in terms soft, smooth, bumpy, harsh, jerky, etc.?

Your trans shifted correctly before the rebuild.

So why did you rebuild it?

Could be any number of things, but first thing that comes to mind is possible debris in the governor, but without knowing everything that was done to the trans before it was reassembled we are just throwing darts at a dart board here.

Mine does the same thing. What are you using for lockup control? Mine is Painless and I always assumed it was related to that. Maybe not though.

That's what I'm thinking, as well. Possibly changing weights and springs, which I've never done and not supremely confident with choosing which weights and springs.
