Hey guys, I'm wanting to pull the trigger on a battery for the Cutlass, just thought I'd get some ideas.
I'm definitely getting an AGM style, group 34 as that's what will fit in my battery box. As far as from location...pretty much Autozone, Oreilly and Napa have the same battery around the same price probably made by Johnson Controls.
I'm not getting an Optima, so trying to stay with house brand style. I've had better luck with Superstart from Oreilly than Duralast from Autozone....but I do have a $20 off coupon from AZ which will cover the core charge.

Ideas, experience, recommendations are welcome!!!!

Thanks,
Scott

I went with an Odyssey:

I had a nice Odyssey for 7 years until it died a sudden death. Left me stranded 20 miles from home with no warning. I read that AGM's will do that. That is why aviation rules call for two batteries in case one fails. But they love the fact they can install then any which way with no spillage.

Pretty much all the major brands are made by Johnson Controls or Exide and I've personally had better experiences with Johnson, so I'd go with whatever JC battery you can find cheapest. Or go with an ACDelco if you want to keep your GM all GM.

That's a good read Roger, much appreciated. I talked to a Northstar battery rep at a 4x4 expo a couple years back. Their price has went up since then which is good for them, sucks for me lol.
I knew East Penn or Johnson Controls made alot of the house brand stuff, and I actually have an East Penn local to me. I'll keep looking, but already leaning towards saving some more moola and getting a better unit.

I can almost guarantee the Oreilly and Napa are the same mfg...they friggin look identical! The last Autozone battery I bought failed due to the top posts spinning and causing a short. The wife and I were sitting at a light in the Cutlass and it just died. Cable was super tight, then noticed the post spinning.

The big 4 auto parts stores are all Johnson Controls.

Buy the Odyssey at Autozone, and use your $20 off

Haha, yeah I'm eating my words lol. I was just price shopping and found it. Surprisingly the same price too. One potential issue I see is getting an exchange in the event of a failure. I would have to wait for another battery to get delivered, where as with a store brand I can just swap it out.
