Thanks for a good writeup and photos as always Donovan. I'm assuming that you're not putting the stainless trim back on the lower part of the car, because you're welding up the holes.
I noticed a cowl induction type air cleaner assembly in one of the photos. Are you going to be putting a functional cowl induction setup on the car?
Keep up the good work and updates.
Thanks Jeff.
You are mostly correct on the trim, fun fact: the ‘78-‘80 Cutlass Calais’ had stainless trim on the doors, quarters, fenders etc, but they also had one long thin piece below that on the actual rocker panel between the wheels.
The ‘81-‘88 years never got the rocker panel pieces.
I’m eliminating the multiple wide pieces because I always thought they made the car look heavy and excessively trim-laden, but the rocker panel pieces will get restored and put back on. Should be a nice but subtle change (and hopefully improvement).
Good eye on the air filter housing, it is indeed an old original cowl induction style. I picked it up at a swap meet a couple years back just to add some underhood appeal, but I have no plans to make it actually functional. It’s just there to look a little nicer than a stock G body sbc housing.
