I am currently doing an LS swap on a 86 Monte with a bench seat. I am putting in a B&M ratchet shifter, so I would like to build a center console, maybe put in some cup holders too. The seats are in great shape, and maroon interior, so not likely worth it to switch to bucket seats.

I was wondering what you guys have done, any pictures and advice would be greatly appreciated. I haven't done any fiberglassing or vinyl work before, but I am open to giving it a shot. Just wondering what the best route is. Thanks

Long ago when I had 60/40 seats in my Monte I cut down the passenger side seat and installed a center console.

For my current 86' Regal Project I have a center console and B & M shifter for it but for the time being since I have a NOS interior I just modified a universal console so I could have a little storage and cupholders.

You could notch the seat

How did you cut out the center of the seat out while still making it look good?
(short version) I removed the armrest and took off some of the bottom of the seat upholstery and then cut the metal and formed a new edge then cut the foam to match and carefully folded the material over the new edge and trimmed it then reattached it.

I considered notching the bench that came in my 81. Took it to a local upholstery shops and the guy wouldnt do it. He said its tough to weld the spring steel that the frames made of. True ? I have no idea. Ive seen notched seats in cars so I dont really know.

I will probably do this to my Regal at some point but I also have an extra NOS driver's seat bottom upholstery that I can use on the passenger side bottom that will make it even more factory looking.
