I know NOTHING about upholstery. How does one go about fixing the 'buckle' in this pic?

Are you replacing it?
Most add ons (buttons, buckles etc.) have a pin that pushes through the upholstery and goes into a clip on the backside that retains it.

Replace it or repair what I got. Whatever it takes. If I gotta get a new button, where would I get one?

What exactly is wrong with it, the picture distorts too much when I enlarge it looks like chrome pealing?
I doubt you would be able to find those new and they are probably a limited amount of years produced for used ones to be available in good condition.

Junkyard is probably your best bet. Use a knife and cut out a piece of the upholstery like the one 565BBC posted. If you can help it, cut it out of a seat that is already torn so you don't ruin an otherwise good seat.

I cut out a few buttons from my original faded interior because you just never know.

The material has just come undone from the steal button. It looks like somebody just tried glueing it back on at one point but it didn't take.

Never gonna find a seat like this is any junkyard around here and it seams way too expensive to buy a whole seat just to swipe a button off of it that probably isn't even going to be in good enough condition to match up with the rest of my seat ( which is in very good condition ).

If it is a button covered in material you will have to pull it off to do a proper repair since you will want the material wrapped around and also glued to the backside.

Those style seats pop up in the junkyards here every once in a while. I'll keep an eye out for one and grab it for you if I come across one.

Cool let me know. In the meantime I'm gonna contact an upholsterer place near me and see if there's anything they can do about it. Not gonna be for a while though cuz of work.

I was in no hurry to get it done any time soon but since I was removing the seat for something else I figure it may be a good time to mess with it.
