Hey guys. Started having a problem with my wagon today. Took it out for a spin and ended it right away because it's not shifting out of 1st gear and the speedometer isn't working. I tried adjusting the TV cable, and it didn't do anything for the shifting problem. Pulled the speedometer cable, cleaned it up and lubed it up with white lithium grease, didn't solve that problem.

Does the governor gear mesh with the speedometer gear? That might explain both issues.

Figures too that I just fixed another problem with the car not charging the battery, and now something else decides to fail. If it's not one thing, it's another with this thing.

Is it a 2004R? If so, then yes if the spring pops out of the governor and a check ball falls out, only first gear.

Well, I'm gonna start small and work my way up. Just purchased a TCI throttle cable/TV cable bracket for my Q-Jet. What I had on there was a cheap Spectre adjustable bracket... stupid thing would bend and twist, and torque every which way if you looked at it wrong. Tomorrow I'll put the car up on stands and check out the speedometer gear to see if it's all chewed up or if it's just doing something else funky... maybe the cable came out of it or something else really stupid.

When the TCI bracket comes in, I'll put that on, adjust the TV Cable, and go a little tighter than I think I need to just in case, and test it out. If it shifts, awesome. If not, I should know within less than a hundred feet. I'll put it back in the garage and start hemming and hawing about popping off the governor cover and checking it out.

Quick question... I just got the new bracket in the mail today. If I install it, and readjust my TV cable, will I be able to test to see if everything's working with it still up on stands (as in the rear end jacked up and on stands) or does it need to actually be moving along with some sort of resistance or load on it to shift properly?
